Nick Hill mentioned among 11 others as FCS to FBS coaching moves. The author admitted Hill still needed to do more, but that can only help with leverage to lock up a contract.
Man, what an exciting game. Will probably be one of the most memorable for me. I'm planning to rewatch it today.
Kudos to the defense for stepping up in the 4th when it was needed, but the offense and special teams clearly deserve the bulk of the accolades.
Hill called an incredible game. That fake FG call? He wasn't going to leave anything on the field. I love that kind of attitude.
A lot of the credit should go to SL. He's a heck of a QB and should be #1 going into next season, imo.
Kudos to Branson Combs for that catch. That one will be remembered for a long time.
I really ripped Hill after the SDSU and Mo St games, but I thought he called a great game here. Great win playing a good team at their place and with lots of key players injured. Loved the fake FG call.
I know some people think Stone L is not a good QB (Terrier1 - 2nd worst QB in the the MVC) - completely disagree. Not a big guy, not a huge arm, but he plays with confidence, makes good decisions most of the time, is accurate, handles pressure (how about that last drive), and is usually pretty good at avoiding the sack. He can also throw on the run. That pass to Coombs was just perfect and not an easy pass to make. He stared at Cox and the D swarmed Cox, then threw it to Coombs. If you've heard him interviewed by Mike, he understands the need to read the D and the body language of defenders. Is he perfect? Is every throw perfect? Nobody is. I like him a lot.
He has to be the starter next Fall going in. Should be quite a QB competition with Stone L., Nic Baker, Stone Norton, Jacob Foss, Zebrowski, and Devries. Wouldn't be surprised to see a QB transfer before Fall.

I really like Labanowitz too. As you say, he doesn't have a cannon for an arm and is not big or fast; he isn't going to excel in any combines. But he's one of those Sambursky types who is smart and knows how to win.
Completely off topic, but I have to say that Weber State's stadium has what has to be one of the best backdrops in all of college football: gorgeous setting.

Agree. Earlier in the week, I Google Earth'd the stadium, picked a spot to pinpoint myself down to "street view" .....and, much to my surprise, I was directly put into a Bob Ross painting 😀

I'm surprised you've never seen Saluki Stadium - should catch a game sometime:
Dang, they did a nice job on that physical plant renovation!

We aren't done recruiting QBs for the fall.

To prepare for this game, I watched an episode on the Bob Ross channel last week. It's like some addiction - you know you shouldn't but you can't help yourself! That funny little goodbye Bob does where he wiggles his fingers at the camera? Pretty sure the Salukis, before they left the stadium, did that finger wiggle goodbye at the Weber St. fans and said "God Bless" in unison!! 😀

😁
hit premium last night very good news
Adding another FBS transfer to the QB room
Wow. Between SL and Baker it seems like we’re set up pretty well there. I don’t know much about Norton other than him being pretty highly regarded.
I think Labanowitz deserves to be QB1 going into the season. Unless it’s a big time get, maybe the transfer can provide some depth in case of injuries/transfers.
@beadmedaddio What I know may only confuse you, lol! SIU has 92 players on its roster. 5 of the top 65 are out for season with injuries. Numerous players are nursing injuries and are only healthy enough to play in games (I.E. Jacob Garrett). Even more players can practice, but can't do all the drills because of injury. This is normal for late in a season, spring or fall. I'll bet those 2 groups plus the totally out guys totals 25 this year. Active rosters for all teams are 60-65. "Active" only means players who get the most reps and are most likely to play. Teams can only take 60 players to road games, per MVFC rule. So, if you have 65 "active" and 25 are nursing some sort of injury or are out, it's hard to have a full practice. You don't put your starters versus the 80th-92nd players. For example, Javon Williams facing the 4th team DL accomplishes nothing for both. It only puts Javon at risk. And, putting Javon against the first team defense isn't smart for both sides. Rest is more key than a typical practice. Also, when coaches say "we are so banged we can't even practice," they usually mean "we don't have enough good or experienced players to practice well." Not that they literally don't have enough bodies. I hope this helps.

Great explanation Mike. Thank you!
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
