Hill said Labanowitz is returning to practice this week. I'm guessing if practice goes well and Stone doesn't have pain, he'll start on Saturday. I don't think Hill get's fired this year. His contract runs through next season. If there aren't significant signs of improvement next season and this season flops, next year will be his last.
Give Hill a 1 or 2 year extension for recruiting and next year they have to show improvement

This sounds all too familiar

I would have a hard time justifying adding any time to Hill's contract if they limp to a 3 or 4 win season this year. It would be one thing if the arrow were pointing in the right direction, but that does not really appear to be the case.
I know going into a lame-duck final year next year would challenge recruiting, but this program needs to show a pulse within the conference, or, unfortunately, a reboot will be needed. Bottom line: if Hill is going to stick around beyond next year (and a case could be made for a change after this year), it's time for him to earn his keep. I hope he's able to do so.
Sorry but I have to respectfully disagree. Hill was originally hired at SIU because of his knowledge as a QB (QB coach). Therefore, it’s his job to recruit talented QBs that fit into his system and not be career backups. I find it hard to believe he recruited Lyle’s to be a backup QB. Sometimes you have to place blame where it’s deserved.
Agreed. The QB play under Hill has been disappointing and a big part of the woeful results.
Agree, the qb play should have been better under Nick. I was very disappointed with Sam Straub last year. A 5th year senior and a 3rd year starter. Played extremely poorly before his benching. I was told what the problem was, but I don't want to say it here because it's not positive and I can't be 100% it's accurate. Does anybody know, with 100% no doubt about it facts, what happened to Straub last year?
I'm afraid the Straub debacle at QB symbolizes the Nick Hill era at SIU.
(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”

Nope. If this season ends the way I'm afraid it will, he should be gone. I can't see wasting another $400K. Take a hit, get a new coach and rebuild. None of this hanging on to mediocrity for 6 or 7 years like we did with Lennon.
He said at the press conference Kare is our starting QB. Stone is a week or two away from practicing with contact. When he comes back he'll have to compete. Seriously? That is wrong. I saw enough of Lyles to know he is NOT the guy. Stone may not be the guy either, but he's a lot closer to being the guy!
I'm beginning to wonder just how objective Hill is. Before this game, he said we are a good football team. There are a few bright spots, but we are not a good football team. Beating a couple of weak teams doesn't mean much.
