I thought Hill was Kill’s guy? Wasn’t Kill on the search committee that ultimately chose Hill? If Kill was “itching” to get in “his guy”, why did he give Hill an extension? Jussayin ‘
Tracy Claeys? Thought he did a good job at Minn. but he took the players' side against the admin.
Doubt Claeys would take a cut in pay to come here - he's the DC at Washington State.
I don’t know if it’s that or simply Hill not being able to use the talent he has on both sides of the ball.
Maybe a bit of both.
Lennon had QBs like Paul Macintosh, Chris Dieker, Kory Faulkner. RBs like Deji Karim, Jewel Hampton. Guys like Mycole Pruitt.
Not sure we have anything like that on this roster.
We don’t Have anyone close to any of them. If you don’t have a top quarterback and running back, most any team is doomed to the bottom half. We have neither and haven’t for a number of years.
Can we please not go in to the fire Hill mode. I know this is bad but we just got through one nightmare. Honestly I do not believe the money is there until after next year anyway

Which is disappointing considering the job Hill was doing with recruiting before becoming head coach. As I said earlier, never thought this team would have so many problems at the QB position when Hill was hired.
The defense is still REALLY bad. The offense was good enough to win, in my opinion, if the defense can hold anyone to under 20. They've got a lot of work to do and based on what I saw last night the game against UMass and Arkansas State could get really ugly.
I was shocked when I saw our qb scramble for the first time. What's the upside of having a small qb who can't run and doesn't throw the ball very well either?

Like just about everyone, I really like Nick Hill and want this to work out, but you can't get your a-- kicked at SEMO in the opener of Year 4, coming off a 2-9 season, and not have serious questions about the direction of the program. He'll be given the benefit of the doubt if he does a decent job, but this hasn't been a decent job so far. Hoping they can somehow straighten things out, but as we know, the schedule only gets tougher.
Haven't watched the game yet. Not really looking forward to it, but I will. I'm going over the game stats to see what I should pay particular attention to.
The first thing that jumps out at me is how wrong I was. I said that our overall defense has to be better this season. No way it could be as historically bad. The changes in the DL have to be an improvement that permeates through the whole defense. WRONG! Or at least wrong on paper. The DL looks on paper as bad, if not worse, than in previous years. SEMO's average rush was 5.7 yards on 49 rushes while only 1 total yard for loss. A coach wants the DL to play on the other team's side of the ball. Control the line of scrimmage. Didn't happen. 5.7 yards per rush, only 1 TFL. And that wasn't by the DL. Horrible. NO SACKS and ONLY 3 QBH. ONLY 3. Did their QB even break a sweat? SEMO had 529 total yards of offense. Average rush was 5.7 yards. Average pass completion was 16.5 yards. Averaged 7.1 yards per play. How did we hold them under 100 points? The stats I've mentioned simply scratch the surface. The rest of the numbers on D are just as bad. On the other side, the numbers on O look fairly good. Not great, but good. 170 rushing, 217 passing, 387 total.
Looks like this season will mirror last season.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
We had 16 Florida players, they had 2...are we concentrating on a overworked recruiting area?

Watched first quarter. So far so good. Nick made one big mistake however. On the interception. We've got a 9 foot tall TE. Tell your QB to lob the ball to the corner of the goal post crossbar and have your 9 foot TE go up against the 5-11 S and win the jump ball. Instead we use our 9 foot TE to block on a slant pass. When you have a shorter QB (only 5-10) the DE needs to be cut blocked (blocked low so his hands come down and can't deflect the pass). Instead everybody is standing straight up and the DE is able to jump and deflect the pass. Don't have a TE that can cut block? Put your RB on that side and tell him to stick his helmet on the DE's big Bruce and the ballers. That'll bring his hands down.
I can already feel how this game is going to go. SEMO made so many mistakes. That's what stopped their drives. Our DL is worse than last year's. Every play is on our side of the ball. SEMO obviously cuts out their mistakes and away they went.

The big disappointment for me was the defense. I haven't seen individual defensive stats but the defense looked just like last year. The D Backs were making all the tackles on running plays. Our front seven just didn't stop people. I was hoping for big improvement there but wasn't hopeful because no big game changer DL or LB's were recruited. They didn't get any sacks either.
I would like to see Javon Williams get some more touches at RB. They went to him twice in the red zone in a Wildcat formation and he got positive yards and scored a TD and then they never went to him again. I think he has potential to be a difference maker. I saw him play in high school and he was unstoppable. I know the jump to college is a big one, but after a redshirt year, I would at least like to see him get a shot. He's a RS freshman so might as well at least build for the future.
Just watched the 3rd quarter. A lot of disappointments. The OL was bitch slapped the whole quarter. I don't think anybody thought this group was going to be great, but it had a chance to be good. The entire quarter was played on our side of the line of scrimmage. There were a couple sacks and a whole lot of hurries. Terrible. So much so that Stone got happy feet and wasn't lining his feet up with the throws anymore. Far too many bad passes because of this. Our LB's are every bit as bad as our DL. SLOW. And forget about shedding blocks. They had the proverbial velcro on their jerseys. And our DL simply SUCKS AGAIN!!!
I did like how Petrino was trying everything he could think of to try to get the DL to be somewhat productive. DL stunts, moving DE's to DT's and back, and blitzes. He even tried guys from his 3rd and 4th rotations. And as a side note, that Berner kid was a starter last year at DE. He's down in the 3rd or 4th rotation. He was somewhat productive. Better than the rest. At least with his bull rush technique he played on SEMO's side of the ball. What did this kid do to get banished so far down the depth chart below all the other no talents. Sleep with Chuka Ndulue's wife? Mother? Father? Play the kid more. It's nice to see a white jersey in the other team's backfield for a change.
Can you tell I'm looking so forward to watching the 4th quarter.

4th quarter just more of the same. Those of you who think we need a better running back. I respectfully disagree. Davis did everything any coach could hope to get out of that position. Let's hope he stays healthy. We need to target Kilby more. At 9 feet tall and fairly fast, skinny posts and corner fades should be on display all the time. Receivers not bad. Certainly can live with. OL needs to get pissed about something. They block too politely. F'n brawl boys. I want to see the other team's DL going after you when the play is over. Not calmly walking back to the huddle after they've thanked you for having such a pleasant personality and excellent sportsmanship. The QB will probably be okay. And I've said just about all I can say about the defense. I guess we have to live with another group of doormats again this year. No fire. No desire. Bunch of pussies. Punch somebody in the grill. Let's go.
