Spring practice should start pretty soon. I know quite a few schools have already started...anyone know when SIU plans to have theirs? Hill typically spreads it out a bit so I would imagine pretty soon. I'm sure they were trying to wait for the weather to settle down as we don't really have an indoor facility.

Spring game appeared to be more of a practice with limited contact. Several plays were blown dead before contact. I thought last year they played football with only Baker being non-contact? It was hard to get a good feel for this team after a disappointing 5-6 2022. I thought last years spring game was much more productive.
I think there were 3 TDs total Saturday in the so called live rep portion. Maybe 4.
I don’t recall 1st offense group scoring with #8 under center. The 2nd team scored 3 times. #18 had a good series with the 2’s that was capped with a short TD pass. #10 had a good drive with the 2’s that was capped with a rushing TD. The other score was a rushing TD and I’m not sure who was QB. I think it was #12 under center. #18 had a nice drive in the 2-minute drill during the last part of practice.
I feel like defense was at a disadvantage without being able to play through contact.
Summer workouts should be interesting heading into fall camp. IMO there are lots of questions and lots of pieces to find.

We are having a legit competition for QB2, Baker will be QB1 going in to the season.

I would think all 22 spots have legit competition with and intense environment of earning every snap. 5-6, bad finish, and no playoffs……not one player should feel safe or it will be a repeat of last year only worse. 3 backup QBs looked very comfortable and played well. If QB2 is all they are fighting for something is wrong. That goes for every position.

I think if one of the other 3 QBs vying for the backup role, had an insane spring/fall camp, maybe Hill would be forced to look at it that way, but the way he talks about Baker, it feels pretty settled that he'll be the starter. That's not to say that Baker hasn't earned it either.
Every QB on the roster has been behind him for multiple years. Lindauer hasn't really had much of a shot b/c of the transfer then injury, so he feels like the only guy that would have a shot.
Zach Zebrowski looked pretty good in whatever garbage time he played last year. Tough to gauge garbage time but Stone Norton was a disaster when he got garbage time 2 years ago. Nic is the guy though and should be the guy. Last year was far from his fault.
