I think that answers your question about whether there is any QB 1 competition. Seriously doubt it.

Tough schedule once again this year.

5-6 last year and QB1 was basically named before spring practices. Can’t blame Zabrowski.

oh I'm not blaming Zach at all - I'm just saying that Nick Hill has  already decided who number one quarterback is. I hope Z doesn't go somewhere and win a D2 Nat'l Championship like Austin Reed, who is now the starter at Western Kentucky and was 2nd in D1 in passing yards last year - 3800+.

I would think Simmons and Lindauer will get a good look in fall camp. Both moved right down the field with the 2’s in the spring game. Not a popular opinion, but 5-6 in 2022, and the 1st team offense looked bad in spring game…Make it a legit competition. We don’t need another Austin Reed.

With all due respect people complain they do not want division 2 players for basketball but are upset when  a player leaves for a D2 football school and has a great year I believe the competition isn't as great on a consistent basis at a lower level so congrats to Reed but how about we keep things in perspective maybe the transfers want to play and not be backups not because you believe the competition is settled  before the competition begins

@jabman62 Austin Reed threw for 4700 plus yards at Western Kentucky in 2022.  40 TDs and is now regarded as a kid who will have a chance to play at the next level.
Does make a fan wonder? We did start the Lyles kid a few years back.

Never seen the kid play so have no opinion on his future but I am sure the offensive system he is now is different than Hills so let's compare apples to apples not oranges

Maybe, just maybe, it’s a QB coaches problem. We did start the Lyles kid a few years back. Does that raise any concerns?

Lyles was a real head scratcher for me too VFB.

A bit of a head scratcher for me, but congrats. I guess he gets to play better competition night in and night out, but I don’t anticipate much success for the program overall…at least in the near term. I think Fitzgerald is a good coach and he’ll learn a lot.

He has the talent to possibly play in the NFL. Better avenue to get drafted. Has 2 years left I believe.

I come in peace. This is not a head-scratcher in any way. NU just had four players drafted, OL first round, DL and DB and RB in later rounds, and several others get camp invites. Plus he gets the degree. Plus gets to play in front of huge crowds in classic venues. It's undeniably a better opportunity.

Thank you for joining this fine Saluki board, and for sharing your thoughts.

Just a few questions for you.

1. With all of these players being drafted, how did NU football lose to the 5-6 FCS 63 scholarship Salukis of SIU ?

2. With all of these players being drafted, how did NU football finish 1-11?

3. How many times did NU sell out Ryan Field ?

It's only undeniably a better opportunity if he's a starting linebacker, and if the $300,000 NIL was guarantied. I hope it works out for the young man, but NU football is certainly not Ohio State, nor Michigan.

Of course he gets a bigger stage, I said as much. Bigger platform and more eyeballs…hopefully some NIL money and Fitzgerald is a great coach.

My main point was in terms of team success. Northwestern is not going to be good for at least a couple years. If it’s just about finding a stage to showcase your skills and get drafted (it’s like that for everyone to some degree), his odds go up a bit at Northwestern assuming he plays, which I think he will. Let’s not act like the top end talent at the FCS level doesn’t get drafted though (granted a tougher hill to climb).

Good luck to him! Enjoyed his play immensely last year.

Nothing wrong with a degree from Northwestern.

Father said he wanted to move closer to home so family can help more with his daughter.  Understandable and I support his decision.

@tj-mcflys Nothing you referenced is relevant to his decision is suspect. 1) NU lost to SIU because SIU was the superior team, especially that day. 2) NU finished 1-11 due to poor quarterback play, among other things. It's the same question NU fans are asking, believe me. 3) NU never sells out Ryan Field unless away fans from OSU, UM, Wisco, etc. help out.

Despite all that -- its is 100% better opportunity. Add in the NU degree (Top 10 University in the U.S.) and it's a slam-dunk.
