That would’ve been a soft targeting call

Good win. Felt like they let the foot off the gas there in the second half and part of the second quarter. Really worried about A. Cox. He was on crutches with his ankle wrapped with ice almost immediately after coming off the field. Would be really devastating to lose him for the rest of the year (for him and the team).

Daniels looked like a separated shoulder…he was just dangling his arm. Hopefully he’s not out for long either, but we certainly have more depth at that position.

It also looked like Chase Evans was having some knee issues. The O-line had really starting to gel so hopefully not a big deal there.

Aside from injuries, a pretty enjoyable game.

I hope the Daniels and Cox aren’t too bad. If we lose both of them for the rest of the season, and in a game against Western — brutal.

I listened to Hill in the press conference and he said Cox had a sprained ankle, but he didn't think it was too bad. He also said Daniel's shoulder came out and they had to put it back in. He said they would get an MRI to see if there was any damage. Sounds like fairly good news on Cox.

Hill said Avante Cox had an ankle sprain and doesn't think it's too serious.

WIU is awful. Disappointed we let them score due to inattention and penalties. Somewhat boring game due to lack of competition, but a beautiful day on our beautiful campus. Warthogs buzzed the campus! Cool! Next victim.. South Dakota.

Good start to the game, but seemed like a lackluster finish. Happy to get the W and happy the team has turned the corner from a disastrous 0-2 start.  My biggest concern at this point, what happens when a team takes our screen game away and Javon away?  Baker completed 25 of 27 passes, but only 30 points. Teams will start realizing 50% of completions are behind the line of scrimmage and start taking that away. I think eventually the Dawgs will have to win a shootout to beat a good tournament team. Defense has been outstanding. Kicking game needs to improve.

From what I  have seen this season, it looks like the offense has a few new wrinkles each game. Wouldn't be surprised if we open up the playbook against SDSU. Always stay one step ahead of the enemy.

We are playing the University of South Dakota next week. We do not play South Dakota State this year.

Good start to the game but seemed like a lackluster finish. Just my opinion but the Dawgs should be able to score a 50 burger on a defense that bad. Happy we got the W and happy we’ve turned around what appeared to be a disastrous start to the the season. My biggest concern at this point is what happens when a team takes our screen game away and Javon away?  Baker completed 25 of 27 passes but zero TD passes and only 30 points. Teams will start realizing 50% or more of pass completions are behind the line of scrimmage and start to take that away.

That should open up the deep pass. Hopefully we’re ready for that when the time comes.

I would echo this. Western was playing a lot of Cover 2 trying to keep everything in front of them. Baker was looking down field quite a lot on drop backs and then checking down when nothing was there. We did run our share of bubble screens and swing passes no doubt, but I think that was just a result of what Western was giving us. Glad Baker didn’t get frustrated and force anything downfield (last year they may not have been the case and I think we would have seen more interceptions as a result). We took our 6,7, and 8 yard plays and moved on. I don’t think that will be typical of a lot of the defenses we face moving forward.

Sort of side note…that offensive PI call that negated what should have been is passing touchdown was a joke.

On a somewhat unrelated topic, I heard some interesting information while at the game on Saturday. Anyone else hear that Hill was offered an OC position at a Power 5 school before his newest contract extension? It’s not a football powerhouse, but still would have been a nice pay raise I’m sure.

I agree. Keep taking what’s available. I like our chances if we can score 28 to 31 points a game…..unless we see Incarnate Word in the tournament.

sorry for the edits. #FatFingers
