Fun day at the Stadium yesterday. Mrs. OBD and I were in attendance. Good effort. Really could have named the score. It was just one of those trap games that seemed to jump up and grab the Salukis in the past.
We were in town to honor our old friend, Mike Hanes. I made an effort to march and play at the same time. Oh heck. I couldn't do that when I was a college student. Why would I think I could do it now? Gotta say though, it was quite a rush to play with 275 other folks between the regular band and us alums.
Now, on to the Coyotes. Did I ever mention that I HATE playing in domes. Between the Bison, the Fighting Sioux (can't remember their PC mascot) and the Kitties, Southern never plays well there.
On a somewhat unrelated topic, I heard some interesting information while at the game on Saturday. Anyone else hear that Hill was offered an OC position at a Power 5 school before his newest contract extension? It’s not a football powerhouse, but still would have been a nice pay raise I’m sure.
Yes, it was Duke. Money would have been 3-4 times what he is making now!

Didn’t hear the offer…didn’t think it would be that much at Duke, but does feel like he’s pretty committed to SIU. I’m sure if a blue blood came knocking at some point that would be hard to turn down and I wouldn’t blame him.

I would swear it was Northwestern, but most of you are more tuned in than I am.
Weird either way: as much as I like Hill, I don't think of him as any sort of offensive genius. But again, what do I know?
(Inflammatory political snark)
It was good to see Ro Eliott back and Shaun Lester is a tough freshman. Javon is back to his old tricks too. With the way our D and O is playing, we have a serious shot at going through the conference undefeated. Hope Daniel and A Cox can come back before UNI in two weeks.
UNI and NDSU play here - I think we can beat them both. Neither quite as good as in past years but still very dangerous.
Our two away games, USD and YSU, are very winnable.
Massey has SDSU #3, NDSU #4, TheSIU #9.
DAWGS!!!!!

I have been critical of his play calling - not sure the HC should be the main play caller, but I will say that since the first two disasters, our mix of plays has been better than in the past... But then I thought Lennon's OC Kalen Deboer was bad but after stints at Eastern Michigan and Fresno, he's now the head coach at 5 - 2 U. of Washington so what do I know!
Hill's offense has been pretty potent the last 3 years, so it doesn't surprise me that he was offered an FBS OC position. On the broadcast on Saturday, Stone referred to the depth of Hill's playbook a couple different times.
I'm glad Hill passed them up. If he can keep recruiting at a high level, he may get a HC opportunity at an FBS school at some point. If he fails at Southern, he may still be in line for an OC position at one. So, not much to lose for him to stay with Southern (and I think he's genuinely happy here).
Anyway, on to South Dakota, who I don't think is quite as poor as their record indicates. This one won't be a gimme.

I agree regarding the USD game on the road. They are a lot better than their record. If we don't have A. Cox and Tyce Daniel our already thin receiving core will be decimated. I like that Miller had activity Saturday and D. Cox has turned into a stud, but besides that we don't have much. Gibson catches a pass every once in awhile, but needs to get more involved.
Tyce Daniel is out this week. Seems like Cox has a chance to play, Hill said it wasn't a high ankle sprain. No update on Hartrup yet.
