One of my wise-acre friends, who went to WIU instead of going to SIU and obviously regrets it every day of his life, sent me this from a travel website. Bad publicity. Has C'dale as the poorest city in Illinois. And that's saying a lot. Does anybody really take these websites seriously?

I wonder if these sites account for the presence or colleges (broke students) or prisons (people without means) in their statistics?

I believe they do, which explains the statistics.

I don't know about those sites specifically, but the ACS and Census, which may very well be where they are getting their data from, do not. Carbondale's poverty issues are not due to poor college students or prisons.

No, but other entities have also listed Carbondale as the poorest city in Illinois. And, in fact, one of the poorest urbanized areas in the country. I wouldn't call it bad pub for Carbondale, just the reality.
