The Board, especially the Carbondale side of it, played their political hand very poorly. I think the whole lot of them on both sides should resign.
I fully agree on both points. But, unfortunately I don't see any scenario playing out in the near future where any BOT members will resign.
Go Dawgs!
I read an article on the SI and it stated the board vote was split along Carbondale versus Edwardsville lines; and that the student rep from the e voted in favor of keeping Dunndone and the student rep from SIU was a.) not present, and his vote doesn't count.
So, in simple plain English, WTF?
How does the vote from the e student count but if the SIU student rep was present, his vote would not count?
And it would have been nice if more than 1 person from Carbondale was present to state the case for being done with Dunn. Unfriggingreal. But, we get what we deserve I guess.

The Carbondale student trustee wasn’t even needed because his non-binding vote would not have counted. I disagree with him on a lot of things - a lot of things. The only thing I agree with him on is that this board must go.
So it appears Randy "Pot Licker" Dunn is hangin' around and collecting a paycheck for the near term. Yeah, the board sucks too! How do these idiots define success and what's the plan to correct the declining enrollment and image issues that SIU faces?? Somebody in charge, please answer those questions. Better yet, let's see the plan. What a bunch of a$$holes......
There's an interesting technical issue concerning the SIU BOT rules. There are 7 voting members appointed by the Governor. There is also a student from each campus on the board. However only 1 student gets to vote in any one year and they alternate that right. Both students terms end on June 30th 2018. When the new student takes over (he is already elected) it is the Carbondale student's turn to be the voting member. Perhaps the Dunn proposal will come up again and could there be a different outcome? Has Anyone else heard this speculation.

If the vote doesn't count (and it shouldn't) what would it matter?

My understanding is the student vote does count.

The vote counts. The Edwardsville student holds the voting rights through the end of this month. Next month the vote reverts to the Carbondale student trustee. That is unless Morris get his way and we establish a dictator system.
Craving a McBride Special!

Don't condemn the whole BOT. Half of them voted to remove Dunn.

I'm just struggling with why a board is needed? It seems to exist to funnel money from e to C at the moment.

You're absolutely correct! For those that see the problem and lack of any tangible results during the Pot Licker's tenure, kudos.
Three of the four people who voted to extend Dunn in 2016 in spite of cratering enrollment voted to remove him. Britton gets a pass only because he was not on the BOT at the time.
That’s why I’m in favor of a new board. Specifically, I want trustees from outside Carbondale and the Metro East. SIU is a school that should be helping the entire state. Need I remind you all lots of Salukis are living in Chicago and the Metro East?
If we aren’t evaluating on enrollment, and service to the entire region and state, we aren’t evaluating on the right things.
A new board can then bring in a replacement for Dunn who I simply don’t think can repair his reputation. I honestly wish we could snatch Dr. Dietz back out of ISU. He’s a Saluki. He’d come home.
New revaluations on Dunn in The Southern today. Seems Dunn was in favor of split although he claimed to be neutral. He also assisted Edwardsville chancellor in proposing the split to legislature among other things.

How is being favor of a split NOT being neutral? Just so you know before you answer, I'm laying a trap to show your own bias.

SIU Carbondale is in deep trouble if there is a split. That’s not bias. That’s reality.
My fear is we are already too far down that track. If Dunn is merely reflecting what Illinois politicians want him to reflect, we are done.
If there is a split, we likely won’t be able to do the reinvention of the school like Carlo wants us to do. It’s going to be pure defense.
