I'm not pro or con Montemagno but there is some information I haven't seen in the press. During negotiations between Montemagno and Dunn as well as others in the room, Montemagno stated that he always brought his children with him and hired them as part of the staff. Dunn objected at 1st and then relented. Later when it was revealed the Montemagno did indeed hire is to children, Dunn more or less threw him under the bus as though it was a surprise.

I don't think Dunn wanted Montemagno ever. He was clearly wanted by the board. Dunn wanted his crony Colwell. Who put it in the board's head to hire this guy? Was it someone on the board? Or was it someone who was outside of the board?

Only way this gets fixed is a complete and total royal flush, starting with the BOT and heading downward.

I agree.  SIU has turned into a cesspool of incompetent leadership.  It's time to start over.  Get Dunn outta here for starters.  As far as I'm concerned the verdict is out on Carlo.  Things have to get better and there has to be a get well plan at this point.  Dunn is a joke and hasn't done a damn thing since he's been at SIU.

When Dunn and Montemagno are shown the door - which I think might be sooner than later - someone with half-a-brain on the search committee's should ask Michael Crow (ASU) and Mitch Daniels (Purdue) for recommendations.  Their worse suggestions will be 10x better than what we currently have serving SIU.

Michael Crow discusses an interesting public school model:

http://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/releases/2018/Q2/purdue-president-daniels-announces-unprecedented-7th-straight-year-of-tuition-freeze.html

Might not be easy but it is something SIU should seriously consider:

Go Dawgs!

I'm kind of coming around to that viewpoint.  Dunn, Montemagno, and a few other top long-time administration types in C'dale, and of the entire BOT.   Maybe the only person who stays is the chancellor at SIUe...or not.   (And of course our new AD and the Huckster too.)

Go Dawgs!

I’m in the Carlo out camp:

1. Restructuring is not a bad idea. I think the initial plan may have been too ambitious. How many schools function without colleges? I think a smaller restructure with fewer colleges would work. Roll up Ag with CASA and MCMA with Liberal Arts.

2. The FA has always had a thorny relationship with the administration which makes them an easy target, but in reality they have very little power to do much of anything. Not all their ideas are bad, BTW. Their desire to see a tuition freeze seems like it is out of the Daniels playbook.

3. Investigation into hiring relatives.

4. Huckygate.

5. Was he part of the leaking on damaging info on Dunn, I suspect he was.

My guess is that a new President would probably want his own guy anyway. Also a new Guv may want major changes on the BOT.

SIU already freezes tuition for each class that enters the university.  We have been dong this for many years as has every state school in Illinois.

I think what they are angling for is no increases for incoming classes. Or it could be a cut in tuition. I think both views are valid. What we can’t see is more increase, or SIU will be further pricing poor and middle income students in Southern Illinois out of the system.

I hope they are looking over that 1990 organizational chart to come up with the staff reductions.  There is no sense in getting caught unprepared when the only possible outcome to this situation rolls out.
