FYI: reopened today
soft opening - no food until March - just drinks
pretty bare - booths all freshly varnished - don't need drinks, just sniff the air in a booth! LOL
Well, that’s odd.

Any updates on whether food is up and running there?

not as a couple of days ago
Seems like they're close
I thought I read that they were doing some sort of soft opening for the eclipse next week.
Has anyone tried the place yet? Are the sandwiches as good as they were in the old days?

After the eclipse, just about every place on The Strip was packed, including a very long line to get into Boobys. Did not talk to anyone who had eaten there.
However, we chose to stop at The Cellar and enjoy the outdoor area. Very nice, and the eclipse shots were quite tasty too. Imagine the eclipse provided quite the boost to the university, and the Carbondale region.
In town for a few days. Had my first McBride Special in many a moon. Got there just in time as they stop making sandwiches at 6pm. They have plain sandwiches pre-prepared for sale >6pm. Good bottled beer selection. The McBride was about 80% of what I recall, my wife said they need more oregano on the subs.

Checked out Boobys. A sub is $11.50! Going to be tough to compete with Jimmy Johns or Subway at that price.
(A burger at The Underground is $14...and just average. They have a lots of microbrews. Won't go there again...whereas a delicious Pulled Pork sandwich at 17th St is $9.)

How big is the sub for $11.50? Footlongs at Subway are more expensive than that and I can’t imagine it’s better. Haven’t been to Subway in awhile because of their prices/quality
Don't know - just looked up at the menu and everything was 11 or $11.50. Didn't stop to eat. Maybe that was a footlong.
I get a monthly flier with Subway coupons - still very reasonable with a coupon.
@salukiworld We were in town a couple of weeks ago and checked out Booby's on a Saturday night around 7pm. The place looked pretty rough. The only sandwiches that they had were pre-made and not exactly what I remember from the old days. They had a sign-board out front advertising $1 drafts, but the guy behind the bar says "that's only for Tuesdays". Then take the freaking sign down. I hope they make it and hopefully they will improve!
@mr_woogers You expect a local sandwich shop to compete with a national chain on prices with coupons? Come on man. That’s why local places like this will never survive.
Then a year from now, when they close, you can complain that all that’s left in Carbondale anymore is garbage chain restaurants.
If you like a local spot, spend the few extra dollars occasionally to support them. If not, I guess enjoy your Subway/JJ b/c that’s all you’ll have left
