Not good news at all.
The biggest issue is the board needed fresh perspective, not a bunch of retreads. I think the governor blew a large opportunity to take SIU in a new, needed direction.
Looks like the shift of power just went to Edwardsville. 4 to 3. Edgar Curtis graduated from SIU-E however he is currently the CEO of Memorial Hospital Services which is affiliated with The SIU School of Medicine. So, his appointment maybe considered the School of Medicine's rep.
Bad news. Now Edwardsville can steal the medical school. Shocked that Ryan wasn't retained.
Is E better equipped to run a medical school? That is the only question the board should be asking.
A person studying what has been going on here for the last 20 years might conclude maybe we shouldn't be trusted with a lot of things and E should get whatever it can handle. People act like what is going on at Carbondale is something that can't immediately be turned around. Just let go of political correctness, excess staff, chronism, social justice, etc. If our research institution status is preventing us from righting the ship, then drop that too. The school has a school to maintain the status quo OR seek to improve.

Maybe he just did what was needed? What would happen if a "peer" board from another school were to audit our two school system and make recommendations of how to proceed? How could they come to any conclusion that would indicate Carbondale isn't an infectious tumor to the entire IL college system needing treatment? I'm not trying to be mean here, but "other peoples" money comes with strings and expectations.

Seriously?. They don't have a single PhD program in anything, let alone microbiology, psychology? They don't have the qualified faculty. The first year of medical school is actually on the SIUC campus.

A post worthy of a troll no doubt!
You've been spewing hatred for Southern for years. Did you flunk out and then manage to squeak by at Edwardsville?
The Only reason Eville has gotten as large as it has has nothing to do with quality or good administration. They happen to be in a large metropolitan area and they don't charge out-of-state tuition to Missouri residents. It's a cheap alternative to UMSL and for students who can't get into SLU or Wash U. It's still a commuter school. If it was in Mt. Vernon, the enrollment would be 7-8000.
Aren't you the one who thought the trustees shouldn't have any connections to the schools? But now it's the right thing to appoint a majority E'ville grads?
SIUC is cancer to the entire system? There are all kinds of issues at other state universities: NIU recently quit/fired their president over "ethical issues," EIU , WIU, NIU enrollment has been declining for years. NIU has dropped from 25,000 to 15,700 in 10 years, and that campus is a 30 minute drive from the Chicago Metro area!
It's obvious you'd love to see Southern disappear. Not gonna happen.

Medical School will stay in Carbondale . There was an article in The Southern back in November of 18 that spelled out why it is virtually impossible for the Med school to move .

They can take the needed faculty from us. Our school and people that work there need to see the writing on the wall.

Go to Obama's Whitehouse.gov college website and you'll find us in the rear in every category among IL schools. BTW I did enjoy my degree from Carbondale and doing well with it. Those were the days before it was driven into the ditch. I apologize if you were the bus driver.

Med school? Aren’t the last 3 years in Springfield?

I checked out the department of Ed. college scorecard and nothing could be further from the truth. Perhaps back when you were in school, dragging down the curve? 😀 You can find that all kinds of rankings out there - for what they're worth. Southern isn't Harvard, but it does OK, especially with respect to Illinois public universities not named U of I.
