for you old timers.
I've always considered myself a realist, although I've been accused of leaning towards the pessimistic side of things. That being said, I don't see how this team finishes in 10th place. I've like Cook since Day 1 on campus and I think McGill is underrated as well. Benson, while not being cream of the Big 10 crop, will be a solid + player in the MVC. Getting Davis & Dembele playing at 100% for the valley season will help considerably. Another player I think is going to be MUCH better than the MVC media is giving him credit for is Francois. Suggs is going to be another good addition for this team. I haven't even mentioned Domask yet who I am having a hard time determining just yet how good he can be. And, if Trent plays this season and can get open shots, look out...….as this team will surprise. I fully understand playing together means A LOT, but playing good, tight and TOUGH defense and shooting 3's at a high clip can take an unknown team into the top half of the MVC. At the very least, they certainly will not end up in last place. Oh, sorry I failed to mention Lance Jones too !!! And anything they can get from Gooch and Stevan will just be icing on the cake.
At my age, you won't catch me wishing away time, but the player I think I am most excited about can't play until next year in Harvey. I think he is going to be a HUGE piece to the TEAM puzzle next season when I fully expect this team to be fighting for a top spot at the end of the year in conference.
Media is just mad we dumped their butt buddy, "the dean of the valley". We wont win the conference obviously this year, and we very well may be a Thursday team, but I dont see us being in 10th.

On paper, I have no problem with Southern being picked 10th this year. Other teams have better-looking rosters with the possible exception of Valpo. If Southern is going to do better, it's going to take unproven commodities (both coaching and players) doing good things, and unproven commodities don't usually command much respect in the preseason.

Who?
If you're gonna reply to me in the forums, please quote what I wrote that you're replying to so I have a clue...thanks! 😀
i am glad we got picked to finish last! Thrilled.
What more motivation could you give a team playing with a chip on their shoulder than a rousing and public "You can't win, you might lose every game!"...?
Other than giving Mullins fuel, it means nothing and does nothing.
Coaching fuel...
Now we see if Mullins is as good of a motivator as Weber.
Looking at the players we don't have any #1's, good players yes, but not the NBA "we got a participation trophy" lushes, we have Mullins, Tatum and Young we are going to earn this blue collar players. The put us on the court with Kansas and they are going to have to play us 8 on 5 to win.
How long till Mullins throws his clipboard and jacket down, then tries to check in at the scoring table?
I'm going out of my mind trying to remember the reference. Damn it, Bobber...
I give up!
I DO know it's depressing as hell, but I just can't remember, damn it!
HELP!
I'm sure it's some quote from the absolute depths of the Lowery era.

SIU was picked 9th in the valley (I think) and he wrote an article of why we wouldn’t finish there titled “9th place, Not Us” only for us to finish 9th.

Thanks--that was driving me crazy!

Yes, that was the case. Might have even finished 10th that year.

I think they did finish 10th that year. I vaguely remember the whole thing being ironically funny, yet very depressing at the same time.
