Who were they wanting us to play? We play in the Vegas Tournament November 22-23--probably against Nevada Nov. 23---SO that's going to be a long road trip, either staying in the west for the Nov. 27 game with CSU or having to fly back three days later for that game.

Do you understand how many better teams there are in the MWC that are a similar distance or closer to Vegas than Colorado State?  Let's start with UNVL.  Then you can look at Wyoming, Utah State, New Mexico, etc.  My god, Air Force is better than Colorado State.  I don't know which of those schools were due a home game but who cares.  This was a fix up for Barry. The point of this challenge series was not to pair up the best of each conference with the worst of the other.  Great job by this site to continue to kick the rocks to see what is underneath. Keep going because you are getting close to the motherlode.

Craving a McBride Special!

You'd think it would be at UNLV and Valpo would get these guys--wonder who matches them --some sort of committee composed of people from both leagues?

Why would they give us UNLV again when we have played them recently? They are trying to mix up the matchups, but we got screwed in a quality matchup because of Cheeto brain.  Sometimes I wonder about you...

Only three other AWAY games available: UNI at Utah State; Indiana State at San Jose State and MSU at Airforce--- Air force wouldn't be much better RPI wise from last year, We played San Jose in the Challenge last year so I guess everyone is insinuating , what, that we should have been given Utah State instead of UNI??

Actually yes I will say that.  Look at the final conference standings. No question at all SIU should have gotten Utah State

I wish they had--a bit better RPI at 120 but finished in lower part of the Conference

So basically, unless Col St is a HUGE surprise next year this game does nothing for SIU other than possibly inflate Chesters win total.  This challenge needs to be set up similar to bracket buster.  Get teams that can use quality RPI wins together to play.  SIU, a team that will be picked to be top 3, playing Col  State is just an embarrassment to the whole thing.  If it is a travel $ thing then shut the fricken program down.

So in reference to Chester's post, if I am understanding this correctly, Barry Hinson has so much power that he can override whatever the MVC and MWC would do and dictate what team we will play?  Just making sure I understand?  If it is a "fix up" for Barry then I am greatly impressed with the obvious power and influence he has.

It's groundhog day with bh as coach. Regular season is meaningless. All that matters is the valley tournament.

No Siu requested this match up since it was so close to Vegas in time and distance

So their excuse is they didn't want to make another flight and are staying over?

It isn’t a set rule that the second place MWC team plays the second place MVC team?

If this sort of matchup can be ruined by back room fixing by the league office in defense of Hucky, isn’t this challenge pointless?

I don’t think it had anything to do with quality of opponent

The original Challenge contract said that each school can only play each other once in a four-year period.  I don't know if that provision carried forward to the second agreement.  If so, that would have eliminated games at AFA, UNLV and San Jose State.  That left two options for us...Utah State or Colorado State.  We finished with an RPI of 97.  Utah State finished at 152. CSU finished at 235.  UNI (137 RPI) pulled USU.  The goal of the Challenge is to create the best matchups possible. CSU/SIU falls short.  Additionally, Logan, Utah, is closer to Las Vegas than Ft. Collins, Colo.  300 miles closer.
