SIU is only so low because Benson is foul prone and there is literally nobody behind him

Bulletin board material for the Ramblers!
I’m not as worried about the 5 spot. I’m figuring Benson and Dembele will share time there. But having William eligible would definitely present more lineup flexibility and help Southern avoid being undersized against some bigger teams.

l get my hopes up from time to time and the future of Saluki basketball looks pretty good these days for the first time in a long while. I don't expect us to go to the dance in the Spring and a conference championship is probably next year or the year after. Having said that I think Bryan Mullins and his staff will deliver a good team to Saluki fans. Excellent defence, a winning culture and good morale. There is also the matter of well planned in bound plays, a strong emphasis on basics and that "chip on the shoulder" mentality. As SIU returns to its roots, imagine what the recruiting will be next year. Living on the west coast, it's not likely that I'll get to Carbondale this year but the conference tournament in St. Louis may demand a plane ticket. This year will be fun. Go Salukis!!!
WOOF!
I have no expectations for the Salukis this year. Mullins & Co. did a nice job of pulling together some pieces for the upcoming season, but I have no idea how well these guys are going to gel. What I hope to see is consistent effort, hussle, fundamentals, and good D. The next few years should be an exciting time for Saluki basketball. I look forward to return trips to the NIT and NCAA Tournament and restoring a fan base that has lost faith in the previous coaching staffs and leadership at SIU.

People say that the one advantage of keeping playeers 4-5 years is their chance mature and to "gel" as you said. Is one season enough?
“The best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores.”

Interesting offseason feature on Jordan Barnes, who oddly fell off a cliff in MVC play last year and will need to bounce back as a senior for the Sycs to exceed expectations (and probably to save Lansing's job):
Lol you are entitled to your opinion but you have checked out who Mo State has coming in right ?
Missouri State's Anthony Masinton-Bonner has announced he will "retire" from the men's basketball team. When 3 star, Freshman, Ford Cooper committed to Missouri State he was their 14th scholarship player on the roster. I would assume Masinton-Bonner drew the short straw. Masinton-Bonner was a Graduate Transfer from Colorado State.
i think this team will over-achieve and defy expectations. i don't think that means a conference championship or NCAA or NIT - at least not this year. But it's coming.
Mullins just makes me think of the game with Kansas where the team was robbed of a victory (and i stand by that because i believe there were enough bad calls to turn the game)... And i believe we will be back there, maybe this time with better officials.

I would state the same, If we stay healthy, kids work hard in practice and the gym,
A Finish in the upper half of the valley, and solid win/loss record, this year would be a success. (not playing on Thursday in St Louis is a win)
If Mullins and company can inspire players to produce 120% (as Weber and Painter do) there is little that is not possible.

i have tried to curb my excitement to no avail. Just ready to get the season started. Just glad Mullins is here and excited about all the talent he's pulled in.
The key to this season is Benson staying healthy and out of foul trouble.
