I’m fine with that this year. Very few expected much this season anyway. Going forward is a different story.
Big guys are not essential to a winning formula. While you may be undersized and get out-rebounded often times the bigger team has to make adjustments to deal with your speed and shooting ability. I Have seen team all the way from junior high to the NBA be extremely successful plying massively undersized line ups. You just have to put those undersized players in positions to succeed. Ball pressure, deny entry passes, run the others teams big guys to death, spread the floor knock down shots. I do not worry at all. I am perfectly comfortable with what used to be a prototypical 2/3 man playing the 4 and what used to be a prototypical 4 playing the 5. Just have to use them correctly.

It's an interesting discussion, and we'll see how it plays out. I'm not opposed to a smaller lineup with the right defensive approach and enough quality shooters, but there are some pretty good bigs around the league (and obviously if you make the postseason), so it's definitely a double-edged sword.

Playing an undersized lineup at times because you can or prefer to is a bit different than ONLY playing an undersized lineup because you have to. In my opinion at least.

Given the way this team recruited, I believe they prefer to play this way a lot. Also, we have 2 centers they just wont play at the same time and at times neither will play. There is never a reason to have 2 bigs on the floor anymore, it just does not work. Not trying to arguing but I disagree. Like anything there are no fool proof formulas, everything has its drawbacks. If done correctly you could be successful playing 5 legit guards. I have seen players like Kavion Pippen completely taken out of a game by the pace of it.
I think you can be successful in the Valley without a big man on the floor, but when they play teams from the bigger conferences, or most tournament quality teams, playing without a big man is tough. I have seen many very good guard quality teams that were beaten in the paint by an athletic big man (ot two) who become unstoppable. I think Benson will be a factor, but he can only stay out there so long...

Again, I'm not saying you can't be successful, at times, even with a 5 guard lineup. All I'm saying is, it is better to have a highly skilled big man and not need him than to need him and not have him. I would bet anything that Mullins would prefer to have a healthy center on the team, I'm sure you wouldn't disagree with that.
I really don't disagree at all. All I am saying is that assume Dembele is healthy I think 2 centers is plenty for how Mullins wants to play. I understand there are times where you need a big man, but 2 is a decent amount when you are going to play 1 at a time. And while I kind of get the whole if we ever make the tournament we need a big man I do disagree. Guys, this is actually how early upsets happen. Davidson never has more than one big, Nevada did not have a true center the last 2 years really. Mid major success in the tournament is never going to be about matching up inside, the power conferences are always going to be bigger and faster... it has been and will always be about making 3 pointers and playing tough defense.

I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!
Well! Hot Damn. Trust the process and way to go coach Mullins.
