My guess is Darius' situation has been and maybe still is pretty fluid, depending on what his dad ends up pursuing as his next career steps. I'm guessing he likes his teammates and the new coaching staff, but in reality, it would be unusual (although not out of the question) to stay with the program after your dad was let go.
It'd be great to keep him onboard, but if he goes, it would certainly not be a surprise.

Not really sure what the rest of college basketball thinks of his coaching/recruiting abilities but Sr. probably lands himself a better job than he should because of Darius’ abilities. I don’t see Darius following him to Southeastern Louisiana and taking a huge talent downgrade but anything close to SIU in talent or even a school like UIC, I could see him leaving
I'll stand by what I've always said. I'd rather have a player of lesser caliber that WANTS to be here than a higher rated or caliber player that doesn't want to be here. Darius is a good player, but the situation dictates that he isn't here, I still feel VERY good about this team's future.
According to Scott Burgess on twitter, Sam Shafer is transferring from SIU per his AAU coaches.
I just noticed this too. I was kind of shocked. He must not fit the system. He always seemed pro anything SIU.

Wow, really surprised by this. Thought he would be a guy that would thrive under Mullins.

Makes me believe he is being recruited over. He always seemed 100% on board. Maybe feels he won't be seeing much of the floor.
Looks like this roster will have a significant makeover before the start of next season. I hate to see kids transfer and/or not honor their commitments, but as everyone knows transfers are part of the equation every year now. It's the new norm.
Heard from the beginning he was a good shooter but very slow footed. That probably plays better in Barry's scheme than Mullins.

Yeah part of me is sad to see Shafer go but another part of me is excited that Mullins and his staff have another open scholarship to work with. Wish Shafer the best of luck wherever he ends up.
the shafer situation was no different than what happens everywhere, bryan will not be cutting anybody. the decision to transfer was his, and came down to playing time. the staff was honest with shafer about his expected role, and gave him the choice of staying or transferring. he's a great kid, and there are no hard feelings on either side.
i've got improbable in the derby.
I wish Sam nothing but the best and this surprises me.
We were however told Sam would probably never play much at SIU a while ago. I doubted it when I was told. Lesson learned trust your sources .
Good luck Sam

Sorry to hear this. Heard he had a nice, quick release on his shot, and it would have been nice to see the benefits of that redshirt year. Wishing Sam the best.
I wish him luck but "knowing" that he wasn't going to get a lot of PT, this is probably the best for both parties. Good luck to Sam!!!
Being told now this was expected and no surprise
