Moser has major family ties to Chicagoland and has family money. It would have to be a perfect situation for him to move on.
Good for Moser for realizing that sometimes chasing dollars doesn't necessarily lead to happiness or personal fulfillment. He may ultimately bolt for more money, but as they stated, it would have to be a better fit.
Moser is staying at Loyola:
Wow. All respect to Moser (and, more likely, his wife/family) for walking away, for (maybe) saying, "You know what? $900k/year is more than enough to live on." It could also be that Loyola upped his pay or they figured the extra wasn't enough to account for the increase in COL combined with the upheaval of a move, but I'm still impressed with the NO here; apparently some things are still worth more than cash to some people, and I applaud that.
(I rescind that sentiment if Loyola matched the figure, even if only in part, and it was a purely economic decision.)
I personally think it's a bad decision for Moser but I don't really think the cash matters to him and he loves Chicago and Loyola. He probably realizes St. John's isn't a good fit for him too based on their history of firing coaches after 5 years or less and the immense pressure that would be put on him that won't be put on him at Loyola.
Hmm. I'm not trying to be a d1ck here, "Mr. Rhetoric" or whatever, but nothing you say after your first sentence actually supports that first sentence. Why is this a bad move?
For me, of you're currently making $900k/year but are still worried about your future/retirement, there is something wrong with you in the head. Which I guess was the whole point of my original post.
I’m just not sure he’s a very good coach and he may never see a job offer like St John’s again. But if he’s happy at Loyola and in Chicago, good for him

Ah, gotcha! I definitely agree.
(Inflammatory political snark)
Moser was on Chicago radio this morning and seems really happy with his decision and really pumped for his incoming players.
He was also asked about Mullins and if his conversations with him a few weeks ago had any impact on staying. Moser said Mullins wasn’t going to wait around on what he did and was excited to take the SIU job and run with it.

This is exactly the case. Naperville even erected a statue honoring his father, Jim. I don't think Coach Moser would consider a move unless he had a local offer. Say if Chris Collins left Northwestern. Speaking of such, there are two ex-NW graduate transfer Bigs available.

I wouldn't put much stock in his new found excitement for Loyola. His star will continue to fall every season he stays there. He's not a great coach. I think he would jump at DePaul or SLU without a 2nd thought. St. Johns was a horrible fit and the fans hated the idea but he hopped on the first flight out of Chicago to NYC for a high profile interview.
Craving a McBride Special!

Interesting. Was it commercial flight or a private jet charter?

Excellent lumber yard. Got most of the lumber for my deck years ago from Moser lumber!
Porter was discussing Naperville and the Riverwalk and his Dad with Candace Parker, also from Naperville, during the NCAA talking heads show.
cluess turned down the johnnies today.
Mike Anderson ends up getting the St. John's job looks like:
Wow Beileon leaves Michigan for the Cavs. This really shocks me. He had it cooking in Ann Arbor

I'm surprised too. This might produce some more late transfers!
