Thanks for that link.
Years ago, perhaps SIU's most accomplished basketball coach looked me straight in the eye and said the following, when asked whether he was recruiting a specific high - profile player:
"No. In order to get a player like that, you'd have to pay him, or pay his people."
of course when we decided to pay a player we picked Kenny Perry.
I have heard of a large slush fund for Jay Schiedler (sp ?) back in the led days. It didn’t work but it was there
Even though his brother (Dennis) played at SIU, I don't think there was ever a chance he was going to come here. No matter how much money SIU had available, Kentucky would have had more. 🙂 Jay won a national championship at Kentucky so he probably did OK.

Not when Kentucky money walks through the door.
Back in the 70's, there was a large horse farm that employed most of the Kentucky basketball players during summer break. They had a large barn that had a full sized basketball court and the players were paid well for their "work". Needless to say, basketball was more important than work, and few schools could compete with that pay plan.

George Connor played for ND in '46 and '47. When he started playing for the Bears in '48 he said he had to take a pay cut.

That's only because Halas was a tight-wad with money.

They had their own "Lodge" and $100 or more handshakes were very common and admitted after the Eddie Sutton scandal broke.

neither one of these teams belong in this tournament period
How Bradley has 6 International players on the team
Bradley is only a 17.5 pt underdog, with 2% chance at win,
Go Braves!
Yale had a legit shot at beating LSU but their best scorer Miye Oni goes 2-16 from the field and 1-10 from 3. Brutal.

I hope they lose by 40. Screw Bradley
You know, Bradley has some talent.

Bradley giving MSU a big fight. Still expect Sparty to pull away in the 2nd half.
