No one thought the American Kyler Filewich would win the battle between him and Cockburn, but he most certainly did!!!!

Loyola’s team defense is just exquisite. It’s very much the kind of D Mullins would like to play here. Problem is the length (Williamson, Uguak) and quickness (Clemons, Kennedy) to play that way are currently in short supply in Carbondale.

If that can be addressed, I trust Mullins to build the culture and buy-in to be a pain in the ass to play against like Loyola is.

Chicago Trib: “The seeding was a lie, of course, and anyone with a functioning set of eyes and a rudimentary understanding of basketball could see that. Loyola was an 8 seed, and to the members of the NCAA Tournament selection committee — which treats mid-major programs with barely camouflaged contempt — that probably seemed like a gift.

Loyola? Out of the Missouri Valley Conference?

An 8 seed?

Be grateful and be quiet.”

Sister Jean better sell more bobble heads if she wants to keep Porter.  I know he wants to stay in Chicago, but the DePaul job is open.... I think Porter chooses happiness at more than a million a year over the god-awful DePaul job

Here’s the thing: We’ve got to up Sister Jean’s salary and get her in as chaplain at the Newman club.

Give Kyler a couple of years, he is off to a great start. Remember when the whine du jour was “we need bigs!”? Check that box please.

@dawgbytes

Love this kid.  Think he's a great compliment to the other big men we have / will have.  And he seems to have a great work ethic, which is a big part of the game.

Just a random thought after watching Syracuse for 2 games they are long not very physical probably not very good man to man defenders but the way they utilize their zone it makes up for a lot of defensive lapses I am curious to why more teams don't try zone in this day of man to man  nobody seems to know how to play against it no to mention you do not have to very good on ball defender with all the trapping that occurs would make you tougher on defense when you are not very good in the post

Man, it’s just not right to be this excited about a team that doesn’t have a Saluki as a mascot!!

"The Valley Runs Deep".  Keeping things in perspective, I wonder how serious these Loyola players will be if they can all do a reboot and come back next year.  Maybe the committee would put them up to a 7 seed.

I am so bummed that I have to root against Ohio (relatively significant financial reasons) because they would easily be my favorite team remaining right now.

I think Porter might be one of those guys that looks at others lured by the bright lights, 7 figure contracts and the pressure of winning at a Power 5 school and says; "Nah, that's not for me."

*”Nah, that’s not for me, but I want a raise”

That would be the smart play as he'll fail away from Loyola.

As I figured, about 5 minutes following the big Loyola/MVC victory would see the entrance of the d bag trolls.....

I can provide a list of every mid major coach that failed once they left midmajordom.  My point was why leave if you continues to run the best basketball program in Illinois?  This was the same point I made when the clown show here felt the WSU coach should go to Alabama, Texas, etc. for an extra 10% on his salary.  Porter is making stupid money at Loyola and will continue to do so as long as he likes.
