To be fair and while I appreciate the comparisons to other teams' schedules how many of those identified are playing Tennessee State and Chicago State and Lincoln and SEMO, and Alcorn State and..... Point being our home schedule sucks anyway you look at it and just because other big time programs play one of these teams or even two it does not compare to the number of games we play against this level of competition. Go win games that are on your schedule and hope for a great year that sets up our following year with the likes of SLU and OK State coming to the Center.
And, btw, in Dublin and Kenmare Ireland, when you attempt to sign into Saluki Insider on private WIFi, you end up in Bradley fan forum. What the fook???
You go anywhere and that happens. It's how the site is set up. I think the admin is trying to stop rival fans from trolling, but it ends up limiting access to Saluki fans whenever they travel. Would be nice to have it removed, or at least improved...
The Oklahoma State deal is fantastic considering a home game next year as part of the equation.
The noncon home schedule, though, is pure cringe, for the second straight year, which is why I was so alarmed when I saw the Saint Louis game was on the road, contrary to what had been previously reported.
Overall, there are just too many games against likely bottom-third of D-I opponents. Even if Southern had a really, really good year and somehow was flirting with the bubble, can you imagine the talking heads having a field day going over some of those non-con opponents? That four-game stretch in December of Alcorn State, Lincoln, Chicago State and at SEMO might be the worst four-game stretch of schedule I can remember for the program.
The SLU game is on the road because that is what it should have been based off the rotating nature of the series. The home game for us was supposed to be last year, but SIU cancelled that game, not SLU. This year was always due to be on the road at their place.
Toward the end of Mike Reis’ “In the Dawghouse” interview last night, he said SLU paid Southern to get out of coming to Carbondale this year. Don’t like it … Southern needed a good home game this year.
If you are talking about the interview Reis did with Mullins about the schedule, i listened to it again, and there is absolutely no mention of SLU paying SIU not to come here this year. Not sure where you heard that.

Ahh, that makes sense now. Thanks!

@dawgbytes It was worse at one time. Instead of sending you to Bradley, it would send you to Japanese porn sites. I’m not a porner, but my wife thought I was starting to. There were all these Asian porn sites in my history. Finally, Barkeep took pity on me and changed it to Bradley.
I'm not sayin' -- I'm just sayin'!

No we had to do it to certain countries to stop constant spam. I would love to lift it but they never stop.

I kinda feel like that place is worse than porn 😊

Yeah, I strongly suspected a Barkeep connection!

@siudawgs Here's an interview that he did. And he was asked about those things: https://siusalukis.com/watch/?Archive=6435&type=Archive
@quatroschallengesaluki No, I failed to ask him about that. He did mention SLU playing at SIU in 2023-24, along with Ok. St. SIU sought at least one guarantee game this season. SLU offered a guarantee acceptable to SIU, so the game that was scheduled for this season in Carbondale was moved to next season, 2023-24.
@siudawgs And Mullins knows that is a good home game and didn't want to lose it. Usually when those things happen, the other school can't or won't make that date work. You can play hard ball and force them because you have a contract, but they'll either play the game as scheduled and then never play you again or they'll buy out the contract and you won't get the home game AND you won't get this year's guarantee $.
@salukiworld Yes, USI is a 2 for 1. SIU at USI this year. USI at SIU the next two. Same as Okl. St.-SIU. Stillwater-Carbondale-Stillwater

Thanks; appreciate the extra context. I think moving the SLU game to St. Louis is frustrating for a few reasons: 1. It's been quite a while now since they came to Carbondale; 2. Without SLU, the non-conference home schedule turned out to be woeful in a year when there should be some expectations to contend for long-overdue postseason play; 3. The idea of SIU taking a guarantee from SLU, a program that has been a peer program for decades, feels a bit demoralizing.
That said, ready to start talking about the team and looking forward to what will hopefully be a good season ahead (ideally including a road upset of the Billikens!)
Really good interview. Like everyone else I would like a little tougher non conference home schedule and I have no doubt he wants the same thing. I believe in what Bryan's doing and I'll be at the games no matter who they play. Go Dawgs
