I do not believe it can be promoted
Sounds like a closed scrimmage.
The Alabama beat writer made it seem like it was one of those charity exhibitions in front of fans that schools have been doing post-COVID

No this is what I was talking about. It is a charity game. Not sure what the hold up is announcing it. There will be fans and possibly TV
If they ever get it announced one of those fans will be me. 5 hour drive for me.

Below is a link to the story on the Alabama charity game against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns from last season! Fans in the stands! Not sure about any TV or Radio coverage though.
It's hard to get excited about an exhibition game against Alabama when they are playing a D2 team in the regular season.
No offense.

Welp, nobody will argue about the strength of Southern's exhibition schedule.

"The Crimson Tide is returning four of the top eight scorers from a team that earned a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament - among them Noah Gurley and Charles Bediako. Nate Oats will combine that core with a top-five recruiting class featuring five-star prospects Brandon Miller and Jaden Bradley, plus Ohio transfer Mark Sears, which should be enough to have Alabama in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season."
ranked 23 in preseason polls
Cool. Still an exhibition game that means nothing. And SIU still has a regular season game against a D2 school that won 4 games last year, which is still inexcusable.

While I also wish the actual (home) non-con schedule was better, I do think there is some value in these two challenging preseason games in terms of areas that need improvement quickly being identified and there being no shock factor when they play talented opponents (such as Oklahoma State early on).

I'm just hoping we come out of them healthy.
Playing Kansas State this year in the secret scrimmage, hopefully we get some info from the Kansas State side on how it went. Didn't get much from the Purdue-Fort Wayne game last year.
