Anybody know Cade injury status ?Always dressed in practices but not participating.
Luke Martin has done a great job getting out to practice and posting player interviews. It would be nice, though, if he (or, gasp, other local media) would provide some substantive health updates soon on guys who are still out, two weeks before the season begins. Are we down to just D'Amico and Hornecker sitting out?
And I find it weird that the Martin interview with Hensley last week was the first time Hensley's eligibility uncertainty surfaced.
Think it's pointless. Mullins treats the program like they're the 2000's Patriots. Remember when Domask got hurt and missed the entire season in 2020-21? We never got any info on him all the way up until Arch Madness.

Ha. Mullins definitely does not volunteer a lot of details/nuggets that fans would like but I do think he’d share a little more with some skilled interviewing and follow-up questions.
I happened to sit next to the AD during the SIU tailgate at NIU. He mentioned that SIU was still waiting for the NCAA to clear Hensley. That being said, I don’t know how much of a secret it’s been.
Some notes, Cade is out for awhile with an ankle injury. I'm guessing redshirt is a possibility here. Sheridan Sharp fractured his foot and is out 6-8 weeks. Also guessing redshirt is an option.

Not sure how much Sharp was going to play but they are now really thin at point guard, especially if XJ is not 100 percent and if they wanted to potentially play Johnson and Miller together a decent amount. A definite depth concern there, especially since the walk-on point guard didn't return.
Would have been nice for someone to ask about Hensley's status but no dice ...
Jeezus, seems like, for whatever reason, this team can never stay healthy.
Guess the upside is, there will be plenty of minutes for those remaining vertical.
March on triumphantly!
Eek. I’m bracing myself for what might be a long year.
It looked like Sharp hurt his foot toward the end of the public practice Tuesday. He did however participate in a couple drills following the incident.

It really sounded like Mullins is not that confident in this team's potential to finish high in the conference, based (in part) on his responses about win totals and surprising people and their expectations. I FULLY understand and appreciate being politically correct but that is my take on it. We less than 2 weeks away from season and still don't have starting lineup. If you read my posts, I was super optimistic about the upcoming season, but now I think it's going to be a long season. I'm going to just try and enjoy it and hope that the younger talented players don't leave, now that the 2 former "leaders" broke the seal if you will ("first you build the culture").
Mullins mentioned twice "what this team is going to be like in January".
I think the translation is - "it's going to take a couple of months to make these guys competitive, hopefully." Certainly isn't boosting expectations like last year. Also when asked about surprising people, he answered like a politician. Certainly did not display any confidence.
I hate to be negative, but it seems like we missed on recruit after recruit, and I'm not especially impressed with our portal gets. I see no way we can replace the scoring (and defense) of Lance and Marcus other than through effective use of our big men. If the only way Ebube can score is by dunking, he won't be that big of a help and if Hensley can't play, our offense may be very anemic.
I'm not at all optimistic about this season, especially in a year when we have a tougher schedule than we've had in years.
Sure hope I'm Mr. Wrong instead of Mr. Woogers!
Honestly, this team has, unfortunately, given me vibes of the 2011 Salukis and the 2005 Blues team that won 21 games. Even since the summer, I just didn’t see it. Like, this could be very bad. The 2023-2024 Salukis are going to be “Girl Scout Night” on opponents schedules.
But now we have injuries to deal with on top of that??
And, I’m just guessing now, but I can already see it coming - I’m going to have to sit around on Saturday morning coffees and listen to fair-weather Illini followers about how Domask is doing??
Just bend me over with no lube.
(All that being said, prove me the eff wrong, Dawgs!)
I share everyone’s concerns about the upcoming season. The injury situation is not helping my worries about the season. I do not wish our portal losses anything but the best, but it going to be hard to watch. I felt last year, and still do, that losing Verplanken was a crucial loss.
Having said that, I will be really upset if our transfers are not granted immediate eligibility like Verplanken was when he left. He was a two-time transfer also.
I understand that some people in the know say BM is not on the hot seat. I just don’t see how. This is going to be an exciting season because we have some new players to see and some young ones show out. But unless Bryan pulls a 27-5 rabbit out of a hat or a Valley title, I think he’s gone.
I doubt this AD wants to be the guy to head up a contract extension to a coach who has shown he can’t develop players and clearly is not good at getting his teams to score, among other things.
Supporter of the Fab 4: Scottie Ebube, Foster Wonders, AJ Ferguson & Cade Hornecker.
They’re the ones that can get us where we haven’t been in 15 years.

I find this post (mostly) absurd. Theoretically, if Southern won around 18-22 games and finished upper-half with this group that is picked 9th, with promising play by underclassmen and a good outlook for next season, you think they fire him? That would be pretty hard to justify. I’d say a Valley title and 25-plus wins with this group is a wild ask.
The reason I said only mostly absurd is the “not good at getting his teams to score” part, which has been very worrying and, if it continues, will spell doom for this season and perhaps his tenure.
