Big Ten announced today, I imagine it’ll be coming in the next few days
Anybody know when the first day of practice is?
Looks like the first practice can be 42 days before the first regular season game. In SIU's case, the first game is on Friday, Nov. 10th so the first practice will be 10 days from now, on September 29th.

First game is Nov. 6 (Kentucky St.) so the first practice might be sooner than that.

The article I read mentioned that exhibition games aren't included in that and usually the first game is on the 2nd Friday in November.

Pretty sure it’s a real game and they’re just doing two preseason scrimmages.

This is a really tough schedule…this team will be battle tested by the end of the year. Difficult ask for such a new team, but I hope they are up to the challenge. If Domask/Jones had stayed this would’ve been a perfect schedule to give them a shot at an at large, as it stands, gives the new guys a chance to prove it!
Got to hate the Indiana State road game in the middle of their MTE and Oklahoma State/Saint Louis games. This has the potential to be a really poor start to the season if things don’t go well.

My thoughts exactly…they don’t have the luxury many places in the schedule for a get right game. I hope these guys are ready for the challenge, but there is certainly opportunity for this season to go poorly in a hurry. Then obviously more people calling for Mullins to be fired. I’m hopeful the easier early season games will allow this team to gel quickly before things get crazy.
That seven-game stretch starting with Cancun and ending with the trip to Wichita is about as challenging of an extended stretch of early-season games as they've had in several years (with the home Austin Peay date being the one game they should be a somewhat substantial favorite). The fellas will need to be ready to ball quickly if this is going to go well.
It might also be challenging to build momentum headed to Arch Madness, finishing up with a game at Bradley, then home with UNI.
And only one game with Evansville isn't exactly a huge favor.
On the bright side, despite the MVC opener being a tough one at Indiana State, there is the potential to get off to a good start in Valley play with the next four conference games being home with UIC and Belmont and at Illinois State and Valpo.
Believe practice starts next week!
Here are the road games me and the wife are planning on going to now that the schedule is out:
1/6/2024 | Saturday | ILLINOIS STATE |
1/10/2024 | Wednesday | VALPO |
2/3/2024 | Saturday | UIC |
2/14/2024 | Wednesday | BELMONT |

Don't expect that Chicago State game to be easy. We did not blow them out last year. Two 6'9" brothers that are top 10 recruits in the country and they return their two guards, who aren't bad.
Queens (ASUN) returns 3 starters from a team that beat Marshall, Bowling Green, Austin Pee, East Tenn., etc.
Austin Peay is gonna be pretty good too. Experienced team that did work in the portal. Excited for the KenPom preseason rankings to come out to see where everyone is at.
