easier said then done. NIL money and SIU is far behind in that regard
Players will always jump up from conferences below the Valley, especially if there's instant playing time regardless of NIL. Also players will jump down for playing time from the bigger conferences. There's also a factor of players following whoever SIU hires.
@salukiworld so now we have players from below the Valley jumping into play at SIU. and players above the valley wanting to play for a team that hasn’t been to the post season in 17 years. Man I have what you are drinking!

A lot of it comes down to staff and playing time and SIU is going to have a lot of playing time to offer in what's widely considered around a top 10 conference in CBB.

Sadly the appeal of playing in the Valley isn’t what it once was as these one-bid years stack up and the all-conference teams (and coaches) are plundered regularly. About the only advantage to playing in the MVC over most non-power leagues at this point is better attendance, and I’m not sure that’s a top factor for many recruits.
Pretty demoralizing.
And just because my wife came home at 3AM with Aqua Velva on her breath doesn’t mean she’s cheating on me. Let’s not delude ourselves.Just because they're in the portal doesn't mean they're gone for good

Crazy how you spent all last season telling fans how they should behave and now you're the most negative one here lol keep your head up Bytes. It'll all be alright!

This is one kid I wish we could've seen more of. I think he has some legit skill. Seven feet, athletic, strong and has a nice shooting touch from mid-range out to three point distance and from the free throw line. Unfortunate that injuries derailed him. He absolutely should've gotten more minutes his freshman year.
That said, I do think once the new coach is in place, we might see a few of these guys come back.

Yes, the odds are against them coming back. But that doesn't mean the new coach shouldn't at least make the effort to keep a few of them if he believes they can contribute.

I think its more likely, although not high probability, that some of the younger guys stick around if re-recruited by the new staff.
The older guys? Probably less likely as they'll be more drawn to to a program with better odds to win next year/maximizing their NIL money.

The transfer portal's turned into a runaway train that the NCAA seems powerless to stop, as we've got players all over the place jumping ship, looking to latch onto their second, third, or even fourth different teams, chasing NIL deals... and there's also the new problem of teams intentionally refusing to play in the NIT now because they'd rather spend their time grabbing whatever they can out of the open portal today.
This has turned into one giant mess across the entire NCAA landscape. I'd love to see the rule reinstated that if you transfer to another school, you have to sit out a year first. You'd see the number of portal entrants drop precipitously, but we all know this rule's never coming back.
The NCAA is powerless to stop it now because the courts have said that they can't and unless they get some sort of anti-trust exemption from Congress and the President, it will continue to be the Wild, Wild West in college sports.
Changes I would make to the portal:
1. No instant transfer. If you want to transfer you sit out a year like in olden times.
1b. This can be waived if the coach who recruited you is dismissed. If the coach leaves for a different job of their own accord and a player wants to follow they still have to wait a year.
2. Inter-conference transfers are 2 years sit again.
3. NIL money cannot be given in first year at new school.
4. A committee made up of rotating panels(2 P5, 3 mid major) would be established that could waive any of these rules if a player is able to make a good case for their transfer
