I thought AJ was solid and I wanted to see what Cade could do. Sharp had potential
I wanted to see Ferguson, Davis, Ebube, Rupert, Hensley and to a lesser extent D'Amico back. Would also have taken a flyer on Hornecker. That would have left a minimum of 6 open scholarships which would have been fine.
i think it's been mentioned on here before but it bear repeating. Utah St returned ZERO starters from last year. They essentially did a near full rebuild and yet are playing in the 2nd round of the NCAA. It is NOT easy, but it can be done. The portal taketh but it also giveth.

It is winning the lottery. I don’t buy lottery tickets I go to work everyday!
I hope for Ebube's sake that he winds up in a program that has either a head coach or an assistant with expertise in working with bigs and helping them develop. From what I can tell, he didn't have that at SIU.

I still don't get what you and others saw in Hensley. He was objectively not good and wasn't even like a young player with room to grow.
Hensley will be fine player. The NCAA screwed around with portal transfers and he was sitting in limbo. Will I play or not. He would make a good 4 man that can shoot the 3 ball he had some nice blocks and can elevate
Well, this is... something. Troy's dad is now popping up in the Facebook thread about his son's DePaul choice. He's getting pretty darn defensive since I've been pointing out just how bad DePaul basketball had been ever since they joined the Big East.
Here's one such response from Papa D'Amico:
"another guy who has NO IDEA what he’s talking about! Two questions:
So apparently, I need to have a kid playing D-1 ball to have a valid opinion, I guess? I just wanna know why his son chose DePaul. I mean, we all KNOW why (wherever Mullins went, Troy was going, no matter where)... I would just like Papa D'Amico to admit that. He's even a Loyola grad, so you'd think he'd want his kid to not only check out the Ramblers, but possibly play on a team that'll not lose 20+ games next year AND could have some meaningful games at the end of the year.
I should just back off and let Papa D'Amico rant for a while... he needs to save his anger for watching DePaul basketball for a full season... 😉

It's worth mentioning that the last two DePaul coaches to leave the school with winning records are Ray Meyer (retired in 1984) and Joey Meyer (fired in 1997) -- both deceased.
It looks like Papa D'Amico just deleted that post I mentioned above, along with a few others... so maybe he's backing off here. That's a smart route to take.Well, this is... something. Do you know his dad personally? I don't think SIU fans picking fights with family of former players is a good look.
Yep... we both apologized, and I re-edited and deleted a few of my replies as well... since this was not going the way either one of us wanted.Do you know his dad personally? I don't think SIU fans picking fights with family of former players is a good look.
Cooler heads have prevailed, so nothing more to see, folks. As you were!

One could say the same about Rupert: I didn't see much development at all in his game from last season to this one.
(Inflammatory political snark)

When a coach has 5 starters leave, they can either quit and whine, blame the NIL and portal, etc. like so many on here do, OR you can "man up", adapt to the current environment, make adjustments and do your best to succeed.

You two are absolutely right. Just look at JD Muila. While he was here he barley scored for us. Now he is averaging 19 points per game in that Norway league he is playing in!
