Pretty naive to think that players and schools don’t talk to each other regardless if they’re not supposed to or not
Pretty naive to think that players and schools don’t talk to each other regardless if they’re not supposed to or not
I'm sure there may be contact expressing interest using a friend of a friend. But fact is, there can be no recruiting (tampering) in either direction from a Coach to a prospective athlete currently enrolled at another NCAA member school or an athletes contact to another NCAA member schools Coach or their staff.
Paragraph on Page 3 of First Link below:
Despite well-documented differences across NCAA programs and sports, the majority of representatives from member schools tend to agree that rule violations most harmful to intercollegiate athletics are impermissible recruiting behaviors and academic misconduct. Accordingly, enforcement efforts focus primarily – but not exclusively – on those identified areas. By recruiting behaviors, we mean everything from purported "bumps" and impermissible contacts to inducements of cash or other goods offered to prospective student-athletes (including tampering with current student-athletes for transfer purposes). By academic misconduct, we include both pre-enrollment and post-enrollment behaviors relating to test scores, grade assignments, tutoring abuses and other academic-related mischief. Cases involving recruiting or academics or both made up approximately 50% of Level I/II or major cases processed during the review period.
Changes proposed with the new transfer rule currently under review.

Well tell that to the Iowa St assistant coach who followed Cook recently on twitter, oh and by the way....said coach has locked his account so people can't see who he's following or who's followed him (which Cook hasn't btw)

You should be worried, dr222...we're thinking along the same lines:
I stand by every word of my original post...despite the comments of some who ought to know better...people who probably know more (and see more) NCAA MBB than I do (but maybe not).
Aaron Cook has a decision to make.
How good a player is he?
How good a player does he think he is?
When the rubber hits the road...just exactly how happy/satisfied does he feel that he is at SIU...compared to an unknown.
It's almost like the old 'a bird in the hand is worth ____ in the bush'?!
Kinda fun to think about...especially in these times.
I suspect it is a special kind of fun for Cook, too.
(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”
I hope Cook comes back and I think he will. Some people just like to stir sh**t 😉 , and that's why this topic was started without any basis in fact. See the above link to Iowa State? How is that relevant and who gives a flying F? EVERY school is looking for players including transfers, including The SIU. So what!
Cook's a good player, but his loss certainly would not kill us. I'm fine with Lance Jones, Domask, Harvey, the incoming freshmen - lots of talent there. Much more concerned with rebounding and inside presence - that is what will make or break us next year - if there is a basketball season.

Should be a BIG red flag for the NCAA. They may want to keep an eye on said assistant.
Who wants to report it? 😆

I think you're hitting on all cylinders here.
Agree with everything you say here.
I will go as far as to say that Cook's returning could even be a pain in the a$$. Not saying I don't want him back, but it could just be another cog that would be...confusing.
I'd be happy to have him back and not too upset if he left: not the end of the world.
(Inflammatory political snark)
My thoughts on this are as follows. If he leaves, he doesn't want to be here and, I will wish him nothing but the best of luck. At the same time, this young man had the chance to bolt last year. He stuck around and helped mentor the younger players. He has been a good teammate and represented the University with nothing but class. Oh and let's not forget he was a top defender and can shoot/score. I would love to have him back..................................if, and only if, he wants to come back.
Who wants to report it? 😆
Anyone who's players he may be tampering with. That's a slippery slope considering the NCAA's new found fortitude when it comes to exposing cheating at the highest level.
Two things here:
We don't even know if his medical waiver will be granted. It probably will but not guaranteed. His career could be over.
Second, last year's decision to stay here has absolutely no bearing on this decision. Everyone, including AC, has had 12 months to evaluate the situation. Case in point is Davis. He decided he wanted to be here last year. Now he doesn't.
I hope he gets his extra year. The remainder is his decision.

Let’s see, Iowa State. Old Murray State coach. Once Racer Scum, always Racer Scum.
