To me it’s simple . Bryan wants his own players and I think he was probably ready for Aaron to move on. You could make the argument that we got better after he got hurt. My feeling is that Cook was a good player, not a great one. He was quick, played good d and could score . But.... he also wasn’t a pure shooter, dribbled way too much, didn’t see the floor well and had trouble finishing at the basket. All in all I’m ok with him leaving as now this is Truly Bryan’s team! Go SALUKIS.
oh keep in mind that coaches don’t tell everything to the media. Don’t think he didn’t know. He did.
Totally agree... F*** Aaron Cook. He was talented. He was good sometimes. IMHO, he was soft. Some are talking about 5th year senior leadership. Just because you are a 5th year senior, that doesn't make you a leader. Butthurt? sure I am. But like someone else posted, it isn't so much about losing Cook, Davis or any of them individually, it is about losing a whole group. My favorite Dawgs are still on the roster. Hope BMull gets our big men.

Gooch and Jeremic no loss, but appreciate their effort. All I heard about Davis is that he was hurt and it will take time to get his legs back and in the flow. How long does it take 2 seasons? But was willing to see what happened
I felt Francois should have been given more playing time. Offensively could shoot the 3 and take it to the rim and OK on defense. Always wondering why Brown got more playing time. Thought Francois was and could be a great offensive weapon. Felt the pain on the Francois news. Bryan, you should have played him more!
Cook could be inconsistent but was overall a good player. Who will be the leader now?
It takes time to make 5 individuals, albeit even with good talent to play as a team to win. It's not an individual sport. So irregardless of the talent Mulins brings in, we lost the element of these guys training as a unit. So those who think no big deal, I think you're wrong. This is huge having to teach the system all over again.
Is this level of transfers the new norm for mid-majors or is it my way or the highway thinking?

Disagree with this, Cook gave 4 good years to SIU and had a right to leave on his own terms. I wish him well elsewhere and hope he has success.
@barkeep-1967 I have learned not to disregard anything that Barkeep says about inner workings of SIU basketball.
EXCEPTING: “Bertrand is a lock for SIU”. I have a long memory. 😉

And You see zero recruiting from me. Fuck recruiting
Not a direct comp--but neat to think about and even project a bit when it comes to young Mr. Cook and his future.
Read the article (and Q-and-A!) carefully...and report back.
What say you? 😉 😎
(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”
Best of luck to AC, and happy for what he did to help the program. The loss really does hurt considering a starting senior point guard in the Valley who would have been gunning for an all league slot just cannot be replaced; however, on the plus side now it's pretty much a guarantee that Dalton Banks will be starting.
I still love our big 3 out on the perimeter with Domask, Jones, and Harvey, and if Dalton can distribute and we can find some decent big men down low we will be in stellar shape.

So then we should expect Jones and Debele to leave? Just in case anyone forgot, Jones was not a Mullins recruit. Nor was Dembele. Just because Mullins didn't recruit a player doesn't mean that A. he wasn't a good player or B. that the staff didn't want the player.
Again, I am not saying this team will not be successful next year, but I am saying there will have to be a lot of things to go right for this team to even match last season's success.
I am as excited about Banks coming as the next guy, but he is an unknown. Butler is even more so of an unknown and the obvious unknowns are players that are not yet in the fold.
I remain highly confident in this coaching staff, but unfortunately, there are a lot of variables outside their control.
What a class post by AC. If you view it on Instagram you can see what he wrote. SIU was very lucky to have him, and he stuck with us through the Hinson era. Anyone who says we will miss him is wrong; he was an experienced senior leader who had an eye for stealing the ball and could create shots. I am not worried because I trust Bryan will fill the gap, but you can’t argue he won’t be missed.
I was always a fan of Aaron's. I wish him well but do wish he was going to be a Saluki next year. I do however trust bm to continue to build the program back to where it used to be.

I think transfers are the new norm every season for every program (mid-majors to the BIG MONEY CONFERENCE). That being said, losing half of your roster to transfers is cause for some concern. I agree that Francios should have been given more PT. I think Brown is in the mold of Mullins when Mullins played for SIU. I think Mullins sees this and sees how hard Brown works. That being said, Brown will have to make some serious strides, specifically with his shooting, in order to justify the level of PT that he received last year.
Gonzaga might be title favorites going into next year. Wish Aaron the best of luck.
Cook just announced he's headed to Gonzaga for his final year.
I am so incredibly happy for him. He was my favorite player going into this season and I wish him nothing but success. I hope they win it all next year. For those who said he wasn't that good or that we were better off without him, perhaps you'll reconsider?
That being said, we've moved on. If Dalton, or the other PG which I expect to land here in the next few weeks, can hold their own, this could be a win/win which is what I'm hoping for.
