There is one SIU player in the top 25; and three SIU players in the second 25.

Sadly, I think this is about right (although one could argue that a player or two from Herrin's three NCAA teams might've made the list).

There's been a lot of great basketball in the state of IL over the years.

(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”

Top 25:

Mike Glenn, Southern Illinois 1977 (Sweet 16)

Stats: 2 games (1-1), 32.5 points.

The 6-foot-2 guard from Rome, Ga., played in only two tournament games but made the most of them, going off for 65 points and leading the Salukis to the Sweet 16 in their first NCAA appearance. Glenn scored 35 in the first round, an 81-77 win against Arizona, and 30 in the second, an 86-81 loss to Wake Forest. He was named to the All-Region team after shooting 30-for-45 (66.7 percent). A second-round pick of the Bulls, Glenn broke his neck in a car accident and was released. He recovered to play 10 NBA seasons.

Second 25:

Jamaal Tatum, Southern Illinois: 2004 (first round), 2005 (Round of 32), 2006 (first round), 2007 (Sweet 16, All-Region); 7 games (3-4), 14.1 points.

Jermaine Dearman, Southern Illinois: 2002 (Sweet 16), 2003 (first round); 4 games (2-2), 19 points, 8 rebounds.

Rolan Roberts, Southern Illinois: 2002 (Sweet 16, All-Region); 3 games (2-1), 15 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks.

28 Honorable Mention: none from SIU

Had SIU been eligible for the NCAA in 1967, I 'm fairly certain a guy named Walt Frazier would be near the top of the first list!

We were eligible for the college division tournament.  We turned down the invite in hopes of landing an NIT bid.
