Great effort all year.  They finished about where everyone thought they would.  Hit the recruiting trails hard and fast. Belmont and Murray will only make it more difficult to advance.

Also 4 byes next year, rest have to play on Thursday.  It's so important to finish in that top 4 if you want to have any chance.

What makes this just - SO  - F$%&$^# - AGGRAVATING... is that not only does our team fail year after year after year in St. Louis, we haven't even had a single team reach the finals in FIFTEEN YEARS.

No magical runs, no St. Louis dreams... nothing.  Zip.  Zilch.

Fifteen straight years of this.  Heck, we haven't even sniffed the NIT since 2008, so it's now fourteen years since THAT happened.

Even when we had ranked teams, we usually played like kaka in St. Lou!

No doubt.  Got smoked by SMS and CU.

I'll be excited again next October but I'm so tired of mediocrity.  Next year is so huge and we might be playing as many as 3 Freshmen.  Domask & Jones are gonna be Seniors are that's so hard to believe.  Can't continue to waste them.

My last comment...... I'm not sure what's more disappointing, that we're still no better in year 3 than year 1 or that next season doesn't currently look all that promising.  Just remember that the previous coach, that was unfairly vilified, won 22 games in year 4.  Does anyone think this team will win 22 games next season (as things stand now) ??

I think we will be better next year, but I think the MVC will have just as many tough teams. Murray St. will be very good. Their 1st team All-con players are just jrs. and they play several sophs. Belmont seems to always be tough. Bradley and UNI will be good. Ind. St will be better, blah blah blah.

I hope Jones and Domask will take that 5th year year after next. We could be a force year after next.

How many times do they play Elmhurst?

Love BM, the team, the effort, etc.

But spin ain't gonna cut it next year. Has to be winning results. Should be a mature, experienced and hopefully polished product.

No excuses.

March on triumphantly!

Here's a list of total team appearances in the MVC Final since SIU last made it to one in 2007:

Illinois State - 6 appearances
Northern Iowa - 5
Wichita State - 4
Creighton - 2
Loyola - 2
Bradley - 2
Drake - 2
Indiana State - 2
Missouri State - 1
Evansville - 1
Valparaiso - 1

So every other team in the Valley, as well as two teams who aren't even IN the Valley any more, have played in the MVC Final since the Dawgs were last there.

The sad thing is, they haven't even been close.  They were an OT away against Illinois State to play the Final Four Loyola team.  They had a close one with Indiana State in Berry's 2nd year with Desmar Jackson to play undefeated Wichita State.

That would be... no.  Kinda hard to win the auto-bid, when your team never wins enough to get TO that auto-bid game.

Just one frickin' run in St. Louis would be nice before we're all too old to remember when we were last in The Dance.

The former coach was not unfairly villified. That 22 win season had one of the weakest non conference schedules in school history (that featured a home loss to SIUe) and SIU went 2-6 against the other top 5 teams in the conference with half of those losses being blowouts. That was not a good team

I mean that doesn't sound any different than this team.

2016: 298th best non-conference schedule, 214th overall

2022: 319th best non-conference schedule, 148th overall.  0-9 against the top 4, 1-10 against the top 5.

Berry had to go though so this is pointless, no matter what happens it doesn't change the fact that he wasn't going to elevate SIU.
