I feel bad for Saluki fans. What a miserable 15 years this has been.

Sigh.

The biggest issue SIU had was down low. Filewich should be a spell guy who can give you some offense and...I dont know what Muila does, he isn't good defensively nor a good rebounder and he is possibly one of the worst offensive players I have ever seen.

But when you have nothing down low it leaves defenses able to pack in and ignore that area of the court.

Domask is a 3 forced to play the 4 with mediocre options alongside him at the 5.

Hopefully the redshirts and the new big from Texas can help that part of the team.

Please stay away from grad and D2 transfers. People here love to rave about Coupet but in context, he was a 24 year old in his 6th year of college basketball and that makes his output a lot less impressive. Verplancken is fine as a 3rd or 4th guard off the bench but he should not be starting for a D1 team.

There is talent on the roster but it is largely made up of "guys who should be on the bench" with very few legit D1 starting caliber players.

I'm a glutton for punishment tonight, so I went back and looked at SIU's overall record in the MVC tourney since they lost the MVC Final back in 2007:

SIU's just 6-15 in the tourney since then, and have never played more than two games in any of those years.

It's so hard to believe that the hard-fought, gut-wrenching 61-58 loss to Kansas fifteen years ago was the last time we've seen our guys play in the NCAA tourney... fifteen years ago.  Damn.

@insaluki I think OLE BALL COACH was fairly criticized, BUT I think that Mullins isn’t held to the same standard.
This has all the makings of the Muller situation at ISU. Things will get too bad, and it will be too tough for SIU to pull the trigger when they need to. (Please don’t construe this as negative. I’m just saying what it FEELS like. I hope to God it isn’t)

Not even close to an NIT team since the 2008 season too.  This was their best season by KenPom (124) since they finished 62nd in that NIT season.  🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮 🤮

We are weak at C and 2G (when Jones isn’t playing there).  Hopefully, Ebube and Wonders will shore that up. And I’m so damn sick of people saying they “weren’t good enough to play this year, so don’t expect much.”  Ebube is by far the best big man on the team RIGHT NOW and Wonders is the best shooter.

We need a scoring PG with that open scholly.  If another one opens up, we need an athletic scoring SF or PF.  Then maybe we could all have a little more confidence going into next season.

@spike Spike, I’d normally agree with you on the transfers and sixth year guys, BUT…the NCAA is heading into a couple years FILLED with 5-6 year guys due to COVID. We will get shelled dressing a team with three 18 year old boys that were ‘nice recruits’. We can go back to that in 2025, but it’s not gonna win games i these next couple of years.

You know, folks? I haven't heard anyone mention tonight the two questions that EVERY college basketball coach will now ask themselves when they finish their season in the era of the transfer portal.

Who is going to leave?

Who is going to be available to transfer in?

Copy and pasting this from the Dawg Pound Twitter:

Maybe it would be nice for the NCAA Tournament to be current reality for our students soon rather than something they have to scour YouTube to see.

When Domask and Jones both got their 1,000th career points, Mullins remarked something like "lets get the 2,000th", hinting IMHO that using their Covid year at SIU was a real possibility. How much has this been discussed? Any of you insiders know?

Every year in November I think about driving to StL from CO in March and every year in late January I decide not to…maybe someday 🤞🏻
