Quote from Indiana State coach Josh Schertz on NIL: “I get asked what do you think about NIL? My response is that what I think doesn’t matter what I think. If I don’t embrace it? I’ll be coaching high school in four years. The equivalent of not doing NIL would be the equivalent of going Division I and not giving scholarships. You have to have NIL money to compete for recruits, especially ones in the portal and to retain good players within your own program. All of the guard rails are off.”

Redturds with a big commitment
That is a big get for the hated ISU. Illinois, Iowa State, Wake Forest, Butler and Depaul all had offered. Also interesting considering this kids home and school is closer to Champaign than Bloomington!
Pedon already has three verbals for the 2023 class. Recruiting competition around the state has gotten stiffer with the coaching change at ISU and I think UIC joining the Valley will gradually give them a boost. Here's hoping Southern has some promising visits lined up for the fall.

True words. SIU needs to figure out how to generate NIL money for their athletes or get left far behind!
It’ll be interesting when the first players get fired.

Bradley released their non-conference schedule:

As did Indiana State:

This is what an SIU schedule should look like. 2 pretty good mid-majors in Ohio and Middle Tennessee at home and going to good teams in Furman, Georgia State, Samford, and Chattanooga. They do have a D2 game but I’d accept that with a schedule like this. I’d guess Belmont ends up having a top 3 non-conference schedule in the Valley and it’ll better prepare themselves for conference play.

At least one Belmont fan isn't overly enamored with their schedule. Third post down. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

Guessing they aren’t aware that those smaller schools are actually pretty good like Furman. Belmont also played the 38th ranked non-conference schedule last year (SIU was 311th) so maybe that’s skewing their opinion
Bradley picked #76, second in conference, in 144 Teams poll.

Will folks, today is Thursday September 1st. In just over 1 week, we will know who our Dawgs will be facing in the non-conference. Super excited, as I'm sure many of you are.

Ha ha and you know this how? Anyone expecting good news on the schedule better prepare yourself to be disappointed. Thinking the longer it takes for an announcement on the non-conference schedule the more disappointed we are going to be . Especially with the home non conference part of the schedule. ALMOST all of the P5 + Big East and Mountain West Schools have released their non -conference schedule’s. A few of those schools do have a few openings but not many. Obviously most if not all aren’t coming to Carbondale but even the hope for a good buy game at a P 5 isn’t looking too promising. Hoping for the best but the clock is ticking.

TJ MC Flys just let us know how many additions to the home non-conference schedule there will be . Right now there are 3 known home non-conference games on our schedule.

Have you forgotten that TJ earned some cred with his Clarence Rupert call?

Much appreciated dawgbytes. Not looking for credit. Just want to keep spirits high with sharing potentially good news about the upcoming schedule. I think most will be in favor considering our mid-major status, and current overall position.
