@resaluki-88 If this team can start stringing some wins together, I'm hopeful our attendance numbers will consistently be up.  Get out and support The Dawgs!!  Mullins has put together a solid program, just need to start seeing these guys consistently play to their potential.

I've seen multiple posts noting that Colorado isn't that good.  While that surely can turn out to be accurate, KENPOM has them as the #43 team in the country.  I am not saying SIU cannot win that game, but I am saying that for SIU to win that game they have to play at their best and Colorado will have to underperform.  SIU surely will be underdogs (in Vegas).  Not sure if it helps or hurts, but Colorado plays 2 more games before facing SIU whereas the Dawgs are done until Friday in the head to head matchup.

There is no doubt the line will significantly favor Colorado. I would guess it will be SIU+8 or +9 on a neutral court. I will most likely take SIU and the points. I think KenPom is overrating them. It is just a guessing game for him this early in the season anyway. He is giving Colorado some strength based on last years results, but they lost almost all their key players from that team due to graduation or transfer. They got a very good PG transfer from Western Carolina, but he left over the summer during workouts. They have a very good freshman class, but there is usually somewhat of a learning curve. They are beatable.

I know it might be troubling to people if Wonders is redshirted, but let’s be honest, we had YEARS of trying to play everybody when some guys SHOULD HAVE been redshirted. I honestly think it’s a good sign to have talented kids sit out. He’ll get the learning curve and it’ll set up the team better for the upcoming years.

I’m good with it provided:

1). Verplancken and Brown can provide adequate offense at the 2 spot. That would involve both of them being more consistent threats than they previously have been. Southern’s offense hasn’t exactly been humming in recent years, so the status quo won’t cut it if Southern is going to be good.

2). Wonders sticks around. That’s obviously the reason redshirting has become pretty rare, though the recent track record under Mullins has been encouraging.

I absolutely agree with you.   KENPOM preseason rankings often account for previous years stats and with last year being.......................well you know, I think they're rankings this year are a little wonky.   I also agree with the line, as I'm putting it at +7.5 - 8 myself.  SIU can absolutely beat Colorado, but as I said, it will take a very strong and consistent effort in order to do that.

It's tough to argue with the scenario you paint, but you are assuming he's talented enough to play next year as well.  I would imagine that, since it is the player's choice, that Wonders is "okay" with the decision.  If he does stay and can figure out how to play defense at this level, then I'd agree this might not be a bad move.  That being said, the better scenario would have been that he was actually a real stud-lights out shooter, and was able to immediately add another scoring punch off the bench or even start like most of us figured he would.  The fact that 2 of the 3 recruits aren't going to see the floor or contribute in year 1 is, at best, not ideal.  Certainly not the end of the world or anything to freak out about, but again not the best case scenario.

No problem whatsoever, IMHO, if Wonders or Ebube redshirt. A lot of depth on this team and why burn a year playing 2-3-0 minutes per game. Only issue is the ego aspect. If the player is OK with it, go for it.

Get them stronger, wiser, and more comfortable with the game. Especially for the bigs.

March on triumphantly!

Ken Pom has Loyola at 33, Colorado at 43, Montana at 164, New Mexico at 282, and SIU at 137.

At home, Colorado overcame a 13 pt 2nd half deficit to beat Montana St. by 4 in OT, giving up 90 pts.

At home, they beat New Mexico 87 - 76.

We can absolutely beat Colorado.

I wouldn't predict it but I think SIU has a shot at beating them on a neutral floor.  They don't seem as good this year as year's past.  Still have one more game on Monday against Maine before the Paradise Jam

The talk about redshirting is interesting in this day and age and climate where transfers are rampant.  One of the things that plays into it is not only the player agreeing to it but those other people in their lives as well.  I have been in coaching situations where it was the outside influences (family, etc) doing the talking about playing time, etc. and influencing the player that caused issues.  I believe that our coach recruits the whole family which is critical to keeping everyone on board with the process but you just never know for sure.  I had players who were good players and good kids but not near the talents that their family and friends though they were.
