His stat line last night in 37 min of play: 9-15 FG, 2-4 3PT, 4-4 FT, 7 REB, 24 PTS.
Dude does it all.
What a gem of a find by Mullins and staff.
He has been really, really good. Especially since conference play has started. Big shoes to fill next year for sure.

He has definitely upped his game in recent weeks and, like the team, playing his best basketball. He's been a big success on and off the court, and will be missed next year. If he had any interest in coaching, I'd love to keep him around or bring him back at some point because he has the personality to be a great recruiter and also the size/experience to work specifically with post players.
Sadly, like Rolan Roberts before him, he's a one-and-done. But boy have we needed him this season, for stat lines like that plus senior/grad leadership. I bet I speak for most when I say we're going to miss him.
If you're gonna reply to me in the forums, please quote what I wrote that you're replying to so I have a clue...thanks! 😀

I've been wondering if some of his improvement is the fact he's playing a lot more than he did at NU.
In 3 seasons he only averaged 9 minutes a game.

I think that has a lot to do with it. He is becoming more confident in himself and finding his game.
Benson has been a season saver for SIU. Mullins & Co. have to find a couple of solid low post players for next season.
We're gonna miss Benson for sure. The good news is, Benson could be a huge reason why the staff might be able to get an impact big this offseason.
Originally I was more excited about the Clemson transfer Malik William. We won’t ever know how good he could’ve/would’ve been. I wonder how much difference having them both would’ve made?

No doubt! he totally fits the Mullins model. he has bought in and improved virtually every game in most every skill set. He is stronger, quicker and most confident. I think in some degree you could say that about most of our players.
Completely agree about Barrett Benson. The more he plays, the better he gets. Bet NU would like to have him back now! I just think he didn't get to play enough at NU. You can practice until H freezes over, but those actual game minutes are so much more valuable in terms of developing your game! He's a talented big man!
Love his attitude and maturity too. A real team guy who wants to win - great for the other players!
Benson has far exceeded my expectations on and off the court. He has been a real blessing to this team and the staff.
What a great addition to the team. I wish we had him for more than one year.
