There were a lot of warnings by a lot of people about the Hinson hire, and not many listened.  Yeah, Hucky might be great as your next door neighbor but that doesn't mean he's the right choice to head your signature athletic program.  Unlike the alums at ISURED I am not willing to settle for a mediocre used car/BBQ salesman.  HUCKY is great at selling himself, but the Bradley debacle shows just how unqualified he is to be a D1 head coach, especially losing to Wardle.  At home.  Anyone who supports Hinson needs to have a mandatory saliva test.

I don't think most of us needed the Bradley loss to show that Hinson isn't the person for the job. His underwhelming body of work is quite convincing.

But, if it takes being hit over the head with a 2x4 for some to see it, fine by me.

I want to make another first hand accounting of a civil discussion in the stands last night involving “sign guy”(my nickname for him). A couple of twenty something people maybe 30ish behind us asked why he wanted to change coaches and what good it would do. Response was generally Hinson has never been to an NCAA Tournament in 16Valley seasons, he has taken a senior laden team to the pits, etc. It didn’t seem to register, one said , but he’s made us competitive.  Then I turned around and said not good enough for us older fans. I don’t want a participation trophy, I want a first place trophy. I have paraphrased this conversation but the point is:  there is a lot of satisfaction with Hinson and the current state of the program out there, indicating a big reason why he is still here. Not enough younger fans know what a good SIU basketball program is.  Sorry to be so wordy

While I sympathize with your discussion with people who have the "be competitive" mindset, making this a generational issue is ridiculous. In fact, most of the people I've seen still drinking the Hinson Kool-Aid are closer to 40-60 age range (including the guy who made sure Hinson stuck around this year).

Bullchit. You are very wrong! I know you are dead wrong on the 40-60 age group. Fake news.

.Chester Cheeto asked:OK, I have to ask. Someone on one of the twitter rants referred to being happier than a dead pig in the sunshine. WHAT does that mean?

.

7. “She’s as happy as a dead pig in the sunshine.”

When a pig dies, presumably in a sty outside, the sun dries out its skin. This effect pulls the pig’s lips back to reveal a toothy “grin,” making it look happy even though it’s dead. This phrase describes a person who’s blissfully ignorant of reality.

It is curious to me that the SIU Administration, SIU Athletic Department, the AD and major donors do not care if long time SIU fans come to the Arena.  That I cannot understand.  Other that when I was in Viet Nam, in NYC and New Orleans areas I was a regular at the Arena.  I have had season tickets.  I've traveled to away games.  The Arena is an away game since I live around 100 miles from the place.  Why do the aforementioned leaders disrespect the fans by leaving people on the bench (coach or coaches) that cannot do the job they were hired to do?  I hate it when I get upset with the young men, who wear the uniform of my school, don't do well.  One of the clearest facts is that we have less and less men who can be leaders and fewer and fewer men that expect results.  The pajama boy belief that "just playing" is sufficient is an epidemic.

Generational issue, really? You are drawing a false conclusion based on what I wrote.

If that was not the intended implication then I apologize. The 20 or 30 ish combined with the “us older guys” and the classic millennials got participation trophies lead me astray. I share your frustration with the “be competitive” mindset from anyone.

Just listened to A Cook after the game interview and he stated they had no backup play if McGill was covered.  BBQ said on interview that Wardel knew we were probably going to McGill in corner and covered him so........ just out coached again and again and again

NO BACKUP PLAY?!   This is Division I basketball.

How you manage to not have a secondary action on such a crucial play at this level is beyond me. It was refreshing to have a player admit Barry's ineptitude on-air for conformation for the blind.

Unfortunately this seems to be symbolic of where the country is headed overall.  Participation and mediocrity is the standard, excellence, challenge, striving to be the best you can be is no longer a goal nor apparently acceptable. Had these millennials a clue they would also have realized that HUCKY is a mediocre coach in what has become a very mediocre league.  The coaching in this league right now is frankly, not very good.

"UNI is 291st nationally in tempo; SIU is 323rd."

(01/22/2019)

Expect a low-scoring game: only two of the last 15 meetings have seen the winner reach 70 points. UNI is 291st nationally in tempo; SIU is 323rd.

It is unfathomable that a coach at this level, with this much experience, sends in a play with only one option. It makes no sense and his explanation is equally baffling.

Why this team does not play with pace with the likes of Lloyd, McGill, Beane and Cook is beyond me...

A faster pace will take Pippen completely out of the game.  This team should be pushing the ball when it can, but it should also be executing much better in the half court than it does.

The most recent comment is accurate

(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”

To all the Koolaid drinkers who said this was going to be our year.  We warned you not to get your hopes up.  Hinson's "best team ever" is now 9-9 overall and 2-3 in a weak-ass conference.  Are you ready for a change yet??

Bump.  Make that 9-10 and 2-4 after the home loss to last-place Bradley.  Even the most die-hard Hinson apologists must realize this guy is a fraud by now.
