I think he meant to say that this is Hinson's last D1 head coaching job! Just because you have a DII coach, doesn't mean we are changing to a DII level playing level. Hinson's next stop will be in Lawrence, KS as Self's ball-boy!
This won't be Hinson's last D1 Coaching job. I will admit he is a decent coach, but he never achieved the goal of making the tournament with SIU and MoState. If anything, he will be a great fit for an average to below average OVC/Horizon/Summit League school.
I think he is done at this level. He wants to be big-time so badly that a Summit League job just won't appeal. He'd go run for governor before he would take a job like that. Hard to be a carnival barker in Macomb when no one cares anyway.
Craving a McBride Special!

Hinson is a guy who has coached two programs, with a history of NCAA appearances, and yet he has failed to take either to the Big Dance. He also wasn't a hot commodity after MO STATE showed him the door. There wasn't much interest in him. He's also in his mid 50's. I don't see a lot of options for him after SIU.
With all of his post season appearances, and his .500 record when he leaves SIU? If he leaves next year he will have a sub .500 record here, and be 57-58 years old. I think this his last dance as a head coach at a DI school. College Basketball is different than MLB (where managers just get recycled). I hope he get's another job, but I think it will be a NAIA school or Division II or III level.
hInson get fired yet?
Of course not. Check back in a couple years.
I keep telling them one way or another BH is the last Div I bball coach at SIU and they never believe it.
Would this upset you?
If we're not going to take Div I seriously, then just wind the whole thing down. Now that pension reform as a concept has been shelved by the new governor, losing sporting teams will be the least of SIU's troubles.

There's a difference between what Morris would like to happen and what will happen. It doesn't take reading very many Morris posts to realize he has nothing but disdain for SIU and wishes our university nothing but the worst.
I have standards, which the university chooses to shoot below at every opportunity. I actually wish the best for the university but what the university wants and what a real university should be doing are two entirely different things. Roll the staff back to levels of the 90s when the enrollment was much higher, drop the PC crap, and make some moderate effort to help your students learn something meaningful so they can help the rest of us pay taxes.

I stand by every word I said. You never miss an opportunity to denigrate SIU - see above. Not only that, you often say positive things about Edwardsville, that jealous little boat anchor of a sister school that keeps us from doing things that could correct the enrollment issues. That's all I have to say on the subject.

What is not positive about what the e is doing? How do you figure boat anchor when the main campus isn't serving what the students want or need? You realize we basically steal money from e?

you are pushing their propoganda, hoser. E has the same enrollment they did 40 years ago. that's not positive, that's status quo. we've carried their a$$ for years so they can pitch in for a few years.
I bet you go enjoy going to the old folks home on rainy days and pulling the fire alarm. amirite?

In 1978 SIUE had a total headcount of 11242, in 2018 total headcount of 13281. How is +2000 not an increase exactly?
SIU is Barry Hinson's last D1 coaching gig. Nobody's hiring this guy to lead a program once we mercifully part ways with him.

Well, OK, then EXACTLY 43 years. 🙄
1975 headcount of 13,607; 2018 headcount 13,281.
DECREASE of 326. FFS. There's your decrease exactly.

So SIUE had a single spike in attendance in the 70s for one year and therefore the general trendline which is clearly upwards is irrelevant? Really good statistical analysis there.
