Awe christ don't start up with that deadwood again. He has exactly one NCAA win more than Huckster despite high tournament seeds. I'm pretty sure even hucky could stumble in to a tournament win at a D2 school. There have been Fire Rodney signs at the games and there has been a Fire Rodney website. Zero postseason success is the bottom line. Why do you think he is still muddling along at the D2 level? Haven't we had enough mediocre?
Lot of folks wanted Lusk too - he turned out to be the most boring coach in history and his team played like it!. Watson's OK - but not for SIU!

We don't know that for sure one way or another. SIU would have been taking a chance on an unproven head coach and instead took a chance on one who when he did coach, accomplished very little, burned some bridges and was out of the coaching aspect for several years.
Keep in mind USI hired Bruce Pearl and are probably still living in that era. Of course Pearl didn't get caught but his protégé Herdes did and got them on probation. A D2 school.
I doubt Watson's doing the same shady things that his predecessors did. Perhaps Watson isn't the coach Pearl is, but he also isn't the sleazbag. I've seen other very good coaches not live up to their predecessors because they weren't willing to sell their soul to the devil to win.
I'm not advocating Watson but I also don't see the reason to bash the guy either.

Rodney Watson was a major part of SIU's success under multiple coaches and an absolute class guy.
I'd have preferred him over Hinson by a longshot, and wish Rodney continued success.

Via Hoosier State sources, I can attest to the fact that (at least while he was coaching at USI) Coach Pearl would benefit from an 'attitude adjustment'. I know Richard (insert nickname) Vitale totally disagrees with me, but my goodness the coaching world of college basketball seems to be populated by folks with an excess of less-than-optimal attributes.
Edit: Vitale's first name...doesn't make it through!
(1) US COVID-19 statistics (February 29, 2020-June 16, 2020): 2,124,000 reported cases and 115,052 deaths
(2) Donald Trump (June 15, 2020) told a group of senior citizens that there would be very few cases of COVID-19 if the US stopped its testing and contact tracing: "If we stop testing right now, we'd have very few cases, actually."
(3) Donald Trump [(Jan 20, 2020), when asked if he's worried about a pandemic]: “No. Not at all. And we have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s — going to be just fine.”

Yes he was, but there is a BIG difference between being an assistant and being the head man in charge.

Definitely better than the current one, but I'd like to see the Saluki look more like a caricature - like gray dog for example. Maybe with some big muscles like the WIU Bulldog.

So you actually would prefer to not have the saluki as our mascot?

I'll catch he!! for asking, but has anyone considered the cost of changing the logo? I'm sure there is a merchandising revenue aspect, but what about the cost of uniforms, helmets, playing fields, websites, stationary, etc,,,-I know the state incurs considerable cost whenever a new Governor is elected, because they have to change everything from letterhead to road signs.
This school is on tenuous financial grounds. I hope the benefit of changing the logo (and I like the new one better) outweighs the cost of doing so.

As long as they can recoup the cost through their marketing efforts it's all good. That being said, the new logo has to be appealing to the masses and people want to buy the merchandise. A lot of that has to do with "winning consistently" and making post season appearances.
exactly. winning sells. this logo is not special enough to wash the nasty taste out of my mouth left by not winning.
According to an article from The Southern:
”SIU renewed a licensing and merchandising contract with IMG College Licensing, which is now merged with Learfield, in 2017. That agreement included a $12,000 signing bonus to cover costs associated with designing and implementing a new logo. SIU paid Torch Creative $3,450 for the creation of the official SIU Salukis type font, and IMG paid Torch Creative $10,000 to design the logo.”
So it didn’t cost much. Turf had to be replaced anyway, not sure how much it costs to change the arena floor, and uniforms need to be replaced every 2 years regardless (according to Kill). He mentioned it would be a gradual change in the press conference, but about 70% phased in by July.

Hinson, biggest game I have coached at SIU and hope crowd gets there at noon and is looped by 1. That ladies and gentleman is your SIU basketball coach.
