Looks like Southern will play the 2:30 game on Friday night, either as the 4 seed or being the 5 seed and beating Evansville on Thursday afternoon.

There’s lots of reasons we lost. That said, the management of the game was lacking. It can be lots of reasons and they can all be true. Focusing on one thing wasn’t my intent.
Really sad about this one. With all the reunion players in attendance, it would’ve been nice to pull off an exciting one. The reunion guys had their phones out videoing the end of the game and the energy of the crowd. They were having a great time! So cool to see. Annnndddd then we lost. 🙁

Wonder what the combinations are to get SIU the 3 seed? I would guess that SIU would have to beat UNI and UIC, ISUblue would have to lose to Belmont and MoState.
Not saying the last possession was the reason we lost. With all that is being said…..not sure of the percentages, but with 30 secs to go we still should have been 60-70% odds to win the game….no Jones, one player over 7 pts, 48 points scored, missed FTs and still a shot to win.
As for LJ…..not sure what is going on there. We need him to have any shot, but we do not need the player we saw today. It was basically a missed three or turnover every time he touched the ball. Obviously players get down when having a terrible game, but he seemed zoned out on the bench and not interested in joining the huddle. Hopefully nothing to it but the body language was pretty obvious watching him on the bench.
Since their two OT squeakers a few weeks ago, they've looked like a team on a mission. If the RPI was still the go-to metric for at-large bids, they'd be nearing the NCAA bubble... but with the NET (and its massively pro-bigs bias... don't get me started!), they have no real shot at reaching the NCAA tourney without winning the auto-bid.Drake up 19 at half.
That shows how much the Elgin inaction has hurt the Valley in general. Honestly he should have been sacked in 2016 by the college presidents.
can we stop blaming Doug Elgin already. ffs. he had 10 bosses. if they didn't want it, it was not going to happen. that's just dumb 2 think he could run wild in any direction he so chose. no one here has any clue what his marching orders were and Doug was widely considered as one of the best in the business.
Craving a McBride Special!
well that sucked. oh well
A very good crowd today, loud and supportive. These kids played their guts out, pardon me if I don’t criticize them or their coach. Go Dawgs and goodnight Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are.

So he couldn’t convince the President’s to expand? That’s not really a great argument. It’s his job to convince the college presidents. That’s it. Jackson came on board and did just that.
them playing like crap was due to the thing we did right. defense. let's no lose focus of that, friends.
Bradley was even worse at the foul line than us. 6-13 for 46%.
That makes it even more frustrating. Bradley played like dog 💩 and we still couldn’t get a win.
it was a statistical dead heat. they only scored 4 from all of our stupid turnovers. it came down to missed shots right at the basket.
it really doesn't matter. drake is going to pound everyone.

You're right. That said, it would have been nice to scrape out a win and eliminate 5th from the conversation.
Anybody who thinks this was not an exciting game is nuts. I thought both teams actually played a gritty, tough incredible defensive game, and it was exciting. No one is more disappointed than I am that we lost, but I also am not gonna blame the loss on just Lance Jones. Lance had a bad game and as Marcus Domask said in the interview after the game - it happens it's basketball Lance is really important to us. Marcus has had his share of bad games this year also. We could just as easily blame the loss on JD because he didn't get out on Rink the Dink on that ridiculously lucky 3 point shot.
I certainly don't think Bradley played like crap. You saw two really excellent defensive teams today. Mullins said after the game that he took Lance out more because that bad shooting was getting into his head and he wasn't really playing the defense he needed. He also said Lance is a good player and he'll get it back.
Lance has had two poor shooting games in a row but he's still incredibly important and a hell of a defensive player. Fact is we wouldn't have the record we have without Lance - he's won some games for us.
I think we'll beat Northern Iowa and we need to make sure we win at UIC. We do that then we're not playing on Thursday.
Exciting game and well played are two different things though.
Lots of bad athletic contests can be fun to watch.
I don’t think this was a poorly played game per se but I can’t look at either the flow of the game or stats and say it was well played.
To each their own, I guess.
I still think we scrape out two wins to close the year.
SIU is 249th in the country in adjusted offensive efficiency. Such a waste of the 63rd ranked defense. If this team had a normal offense, they'd at least be competing with Bradley and Drake.

No we're not a great offensive team, but that wasn't competing? gotta be kidding me dude. Fact is Bradley got a little lucky at the end to win that game and we got a little unlucky - Newton's 3pt shot went halfway down and the basketball gods spit it back out!
