One thing about it. The Bobber DOES have his priorities.

I just wanted to see Jerrance go big in the portal and then reevaluate. If he didn’t, well, then we’d be in that sub .500 situation I mentioned and I think it would have been more obvious as to what we needed to do.

they wouldn’t have been sub .500… Because Bryan Mullins is a damn good coach and other than the year they lost their star mid season they never finished below .500… but we fired him prematurely and will get to watch him take another program places we should have gone but we are idiots. I cannot wait.

So damn good he went 5-27 against the top dogs the last 3 years. Despite having two big ten starters on his squad for 2 of those seasons

SIU was a 6th place team in year 5 after going 4 years with Domask and Jones not even being on an NIT bubble

Not because Jerrance would have upgraded the talent on the portal side of things?

There isn't much room for an old fashioned coach "building a culture". The "culture" is that college basketball is now a business, pure and simple.

Five seasons in and the "culture" is blowing 20+ point halftime leads at home and giving up 50 points in the paint to a 20-loss team.  Sorry, but that's not a culture I can get behind.

BMull: great guy, but not ready to coach D1 ball yet.

If you're gonna reply to me in the forums, please quote what I wrote that you're replying to so I have a clue...thanks! 😀

It has now been over 96 hours/4 days since BM has been let go. Much like after a tough loss, I have waited to comment due to numerous emotions.

I have read numerous posts stating the kind of person BM was, and is. Numerous qualities, and characteristics stand out. A family man, a supporter of his Alma Mater, and a true Saluki who bleeds the maroon. IMO; truly a class act, who represented this university in the upmost fashion. So yes, it most certainly hurts.

I wanted dearly for Mr. Mullins to succeed at my Alma Mater. IMO he did not receive an extension due to the two previous coaches before him. No fault of BM, but SIU was not going down that path again, they just were not going to. I understand that. As much as I dislike saying this, it was time to move on. Is it difficult to lose your job, at a place you loved, where you thought you may be at for a substantial amount of time? Absolutely. I'm sure it has happened to many of you on this very site, as it has to yours truly, my wife, and other family and friends. Life can be difficult. It is how we respond. Did the sun rise the following day after Bryan's dismissal? Yes. I know he will most certainly bounce back. He has youth and vigor on his side. On the day Iron Mike Ditka was let go by the Chicago Bears, he said, and I quote "this too shall pass." And it did.

I'm not going to debate who should, or should not be the next men's basketball coach at SIU. I have no say or influence in the matter. I just want the best coaching candidate possible, period. I feel that this coaching job is indeed a desirable one, with good facilities, a very loyal and passionate fan base. 16 years since any post-season. Best wishes to whomever accepts the position, because the pressure will be there regardless.

GO DAWGS!!!

I have been critical of Mullins. I guess for some people that means I am "anti-Mullins" or that I hate him. Stupid. I had serious problems with his player management, particularly in regard to bigs and X. Which does NOT mean that I hated him or thought he was a horrible coach.

However, I understood the firing, and even supported it (very reluctantly), but ONLY if his replacement would be a very obvious upgrade. If the rumors about KS are true, THAT IS NOT AN UPGRADE.

That is my problem with this: I get moving on. I don't get moving on to KS. That is NOT an upgrade.

As someone said many posts ago: count on SIU administration to eff things up. Every time. Idiots.

@austinsaluki ks already recruited better players than Mullins. I’m sure he can draw up a defense that doesn’t let uic score 50 points in the lane. Sounds like an improvement

@dunkledog It’s a lot easier to recruit to a power 5 institution where you basically fly to your games and you have plenty of NIL money.  Great facilities and boosters support.
Let’s see what the next coach does with the facilities and the money SIU can offer these recruits.  When a prospective player has a choice between a Missouri or an SIU.  8 out of 10 times Missouri wins the recruiting battles.

okay what about the coaching. At what point during the valley season did Bryan show he’s ready to be a head coach. I’d say his last month looked like a guy who was way out of his league. His team gave up 50 points in the paint to uic. Like come on multiple collapses. Blowouts.

Meh. Can he coach them? At this level?

Again: if you're going to fire Mullins, you should have an upgrade in hand. KS doesn't seem to me to be that upgrade.

@dunkledog His coaching was a bit confusing at times. but you dont know what goes on in practice. What takes place in film sessions, and match ups will be. us key board warriers think we have all the answers. We dont.  sure I was not happy with some of his moves.. but i am not walking in his shoes and dont know what the whole picture is.  Would you consider Matt Painter a good coach? Chris Collins,?  they have their moments too. they do something that is head scratching. wasnt it last year that Purdue lost in the first round?  are you then going to say Painter is not head coaching material getting beat by a 16th seed? until you walk in their shoes, all we are key board warriors who think we know it all..
