This is as generous as I can be: There were some really horrendous fouls called on us that got some key players pulled out of the game. We also didn't have Fletcher.
It might have been a better game if those things hadn't happened. But they did happen. And a better team would have responded better.
We are very thin, not much better than last year. And I'm not even going to talk about next year, because we're not there yet, and we should just be talking about this year. But...damn...

Does anyone have any info on Fletcher? Was this precautionary or long-term? He did play the 2nd half on Friday after the injury.
Maybe not an at-large but definitely an NIT team which may not be good enough for some of you dudes that sit behind your keyboards but that would be a big deal for the program.
If we had played like this at UK, that would have been a 25 point loss. 2nd half defense was really bad - left them wide open many times and they made the threes. We shot very poorly even with a lot of good shots.. Would lose a lot of MVC games playing like this. They're also good and big and athletic.
One thing a lot of coaches do which I disagree with when playing a good shooting team is tell their players to slough off toward the middle. Hinson's teams have been doing that for years. Stay on your man unless they're absolutely killing you in the middle. Make the shooters put the ball on the floor.
Hinson says we were phenomenal defensively tonight!!!! BS. Not in the 2nd half.
He says we had some guys that kind of gave up. Agree with that. The effort wasn't great once they got a bit of a lead.
Main problem was not scoring - agree with that.
Buffalo can shoot it a lot better than it did tonight. Could have easily been a 20-plus point thumping.
Yes, Fletcher being out was a bad break, but Buffalo had to travel to Carbondale after playing in West Virginia on Friday night, so it's not like they had ideal circumstances by any stretch.
Hinson said not having Armon had nothing to do with this loss.
Positive side: Pippen has really improved! McGill is quick and a real asset. Darius didn't melt as freshman. He might surprise people later. Tik showed a flash with a couple of great blocks and a jam. He'll get it back.
All you folks giving up after one bad game...REALLY?? Do you remember Weber's Sweet 16 team that got beat by Creighton by a million points late in the season???
We didn't play a good 2nd half against a big, talented team that might go undefeated in the MAC. We'll have better days and win a lot of MVC games this year. Stay tuned.

No, an NIT in Year 7 under Hinson, and then a major rebuilding project, wouldn't be good enough for me, and it shouldn't for you, either.
Furthermore, Southern sure as hell didn't look like even an NIT-caliber team tonight.

BH says no structural damage - that he actually thought AF would play tonight but he didn't. Should be back soon.

Let me get this straight: you're fine with this?

You see what’s happening to the *rest* of the University? Do I have to give a crash course on why it would be a big deal to make the NCAA tournament? Do I?
Our last permanent President knifed us in the back, the Chancellor who was fighting for SIU tragically lost a battle with cancer, enrollment is in the gutter, the community around SIU is violent and depressing, academics is sinking outside a few STEM related programs like comp sci and psychology, and athletics is seriously underperforming outside of golf and a few other programs like track and softball. But hey, tell us an NIT is fine. My reasons for it not being fine have nothing to do with what we say behind keyboards and iPhone touchscreens. It’s about reality.

Ooh! This is going to be fun! Time to play Spot the Hinson Troll Plant!
Go away, please, now. This will not end well.
LOL

I’m all for good arguments for Barry.
This is not it.
As someone who is usually passing out the Kool Aid, this is an NCAA or bust season.
Who's looking forward to Barry waving his arms in the air in triumph as he struts around the Arena after the upcoming W against Pine Bluff?
Fine then. Give up on them after two games against ranked teams when we didn’t even get blown out. That’s fine. Won’t miss ya at the games.
This is more reasonable and actually does make me feel a bit better about this debacle.
On the down side, the problem is Bruce Weber isn't the coach of this team, and it's not 2001-2007. We've been to this sad-ass rodeo before.
