@siudawgs I think being mid is one of the worst positions in sports. No where near good enough to win but not the worst either. Just stuck in purgatory.

HAHA This guy thinks you get better draft picks in college basketball for being bad.

That argument is a lot more salient in pro sports with the draft ramifications than in college sports. I'd rather SIU draw 5,000-plus fans and be in the upper half of the league than finish 11th or 12th in front of an empty arena.

Would we all like SIU to be better and make the NCAAs? Uh, yeah. I think the trouble SIU is having landing the coach they want tells us that it ain't that easy in this era of college hoops.

It would be way better to be the worst team in college basketball.  LOGIC!  Hopefully the next coach can take us that low!! Thats the dream boys!!!!

@saluki-4-life worse than a nice guy who doesn’t actually advance us? We’ve had 12 years of basically the same irrelevance but a nice dude at the helm who couldn’t manage players or recruit. Idk if it gets worse than that

I'm not satisfied with mediocrity either but it can get worse. Those of us that sat through the van winkle and even worse gottfried years know it can get worse. All we can do is support the new coach and hope for the best.

@saluki-4-life did he recruit good enough players to win the valley? Did he coach well enough to win the valley. 5-27 against top coaches in the valley in 5 years.

Holy hell. YES HE DID. They literally had it in their grasp and Rein Mast made a 24 foot 3.  That is sports but they absolutely did.

They scored 48 points in front of a packed home crowd in a must-win game.  I was there and they really didn’t deserve to win.  Also Mullins completely bungled his timeouts which is kind of the story of his 5 years.  Great person but really bad in-game coach.

@salukiworld Those last couple years were awful. I will never forget the 20 point beat down by Creighton on Valentines Day.

@salukiworld yep imagine having two big ten greats on your team. Only getting 48 points calling poor time outs and making poor in game decisions and that was your closest shot. The program can get a lot worse I’ll admit that but in game coaching would be hard to get worse than that

Ohio Dominican was rock bottom as a program.  I think we all knew things would get bad after the Mario water bottle press conference but I don’t think anyone thought it would get that bad.

Keep in mind, this was an Ohio Dominican team that went 4-22 that year.

Imagine being so ignorant and trying to talk ball.

@dunkledog

You keep harping on this 5-27. Against the top teams in the Valley.  Enough already.  We understand that you didn’t think that Mullins wasn’t good enough.  The next coach is a crapshoot.  2-3 years from now are you going to be back at it if this hire is 5-27 against the top of the league and we sit at 5th place. And we haven’t seen Saturdays semis. Hopefully we do but it’s not a guarantee.  Unless we start investing more money into our teams. NIL recruiting, travel budget. We have had a 30% cuts to the Athletic Department budget. We MAY BE in for the same deal where we stand in the league

The Valentine's Day massacre. P'allen Stinnett. Booker Woodfox. Yeah...that sucked.

I wanted improvements in multiple areas, but I was happier as a Saluki basketball fan the past 2 years than I had been since 2008. I'm hopeful that a new coach can take us higher, but not overly optimistic. So many challenges in today's college basketball landscape.

@kiwiball 100 percent agree. I just want a good in game coach . That’s my ultimate goal. That will determine if Siu ends up being successful
