Just so everyone knows who thinks they are great recruiters up there in Wisco... at a BIG10 school their class is 56.. Behind schools like Loyola, Old Dominion and San Diego St...

And Mizzou has the #5 rated recruiting class in the nation.  Yet, you choose to shit all over Smithpeters, as well.  Calling our AD "a liar" is a very bad look, even for you.  If I were an Admin, I would perma-ban you from this site.

Did some reading about Krabbenhoft. I think he’s a much better candidate than some people on here have acted like after the name was initially floated.

Was a gritty, hard-noised player on a bunch of good Wisconsin teams under Bo Ryan.

Known to be a good recruiter, responsible for bringing in several of Wisconsin’s highly-rated recruits, particularly those from Minnesota.

7 pretty successful seasons at Wisconsin under Gard, the last two as associate head coach.

This guy is definitely going to get an opportunity to lead a program at some point soon.

I know people want someone with head coach experience, but I would rather take a risk with a guy like Krabbenhoft than hire a retread like Prohm at Murray State or Cuonzo Martin at Missouri State.

Might bring Will Ryan(Bo's son) along too who, while not exactly a great head coach himself, he was a very good assistant.

I feel a little better after doing more research, too. The only counterpoints I’d make are:

- Is SIU going to be getting many recruits from Minnesota? The geographic fit is pretty loose for an upper-Midwest guy.

- Wisconsin has been decent but not great since he’s been there (and same goes for their recruiting). Many of their fans are pretty restless.

It would be a decent hire. Again, I’d equate it to ISU hiring Pedon.

Joe’s resume is certainly impressive. Love guys that start as video coordinators and work their way up, as well.

The proof will be for any coach we hire is how he does with in game coaching and handling of the athletes from a GPA perspective. With recruiting we shall see. It’s a lot easier to get players to come to power 6 teams because of the exposure than it is to a mid major.  So the bigger question is do you want a HC from a smaller mid that knows what it takes to recruit that type of athlete. Or a big time assistant who has only recruited to large schools and MAY have a little more trouble getting recruits?

I do like the idea of getting involved as a big player in the Dakotas and Wisconsin/Minnesota areas. I think they’re still under-recruited.

Krabbenhoft also probably knows the NIL landscape better than someone like Martin at Missouri State, who’s been out of the game for years, and perhaps even someone like McCollum, who doesn’t have to deal with it at the D2 level.

If he impressed Leonard at the interview, I say we roll with him.

For perspective. Krabbenhoft was at S Dakota State for 3 years. Guessing he has a feel for that kind of situation. No idea whether he should be the guy or not, but he has been in a smaller conference and smaller market.

As I posted before about handling the athletes from a GPA perspective. Are we going to recruit kids with questionable grades? Just to get W’s. Also their character?

Mullins may have been a lacking with in game coaching and time management.  I will say thou, his players were good students and were never in the police blotter.

I would shut this board down and become a Bradley fan if the hired meatball.  There is no possible way they could be that stupid

Along with the terrible record of his last few years, it's difficult to forgive or forget the massive player defections (in pre-portal days), the off-court incidents and the dangerously poor APR situation when he left. One thing I always appreciated about Mullins was that SIU fans didn't have to lose sleep over academic issues or players winding up on the police blotter. Unless I missed something, the worst thing that happened off the court the past five years was Ebube's motor scooter mishap.

I mean I don’t want us recruiting bad character guys or criminals but we’re SIU, not Harvard.  There can be a little wiggle room with grades if the result is winning basketball games.  Doesn’t mean you want the program to head back into APR hell like Lowery had it though.
