@fraydog Brian was hired by Kill, he left shortly therafter. Liz Jardigan took over she was fired by Lane, had an interim AD til our present AD was hired. All within a 5 year span. We have had 2 chancellors in 5 years.. thats instability. try that at a fortune 500 companies and you will chaos.
Thank goodnes we all have different opinons. thats why this sight is what it is.
Kill also left a bit of a mess and the lady that succeeded him wasn't really equipped to handle it. I get that. Compared to the past of SIU, though, it wasn't really as unstable as some of the other leadership changes I've seen. We just had a President before Mahony, not counting Dorsey as the interim, that was literally trying to tear the school apart. If you told me we'd be able to not only find stability but grow after that in 2018, I would have told you you're crazy.
I think all these Smithpeters folks are gonna be surprised
@barkeep-1967 I just hope it’s not that guy from Texas a and m dude seems like he has no positive qualities other than a connection.

I thought you were one who said it was Smithpeters? 😆
ok, so the suggestion of the dots thread did not calm the waters. how about mike dale stories?
Got any good Mamadou Seck stories? 😊
Somebody explain to me why we need a practice facility for basketball. An arena that's empty most of the time isn't good enough? A great weight room training facility isn't good enough?
If the powers that be can get Banterra going as an entertainment venue again, that facility won't be as empty as it has been. Also it's on the list of fundraising for the Salukis Unleashed initiative, so I would say there's a good chance of it being built.
https://unleashed.siuf.org/imagine-salukis-unleashed/
Basketball is a cornerstone of Saluki Athletics. Our men’s and women’s teams have brought about some of the most exciting moments in our university’s history. At SIU, we mark the eras by the success of our basketball programs. The construction of a practice facility for these inspiring programs is long overdue.
Our plan for a two-court practice facility expands opportunities for both teams to practice simultaneously. It offers student-athletes more opportunities to hone their craft, benefiting the most dedicated among them.
The basketball practice facility will allow all volleyball games to be played in the Banterra Center, giving them a proper home atmosphere, and positively impacting three programs at once.
This facility will provide flexibility when scheduling other community-centric events at the Banterra Center, including academic events, community programs, concerts, and more.
I would put it where the Arenas north parking lot currently is. It's around a 1.5 acre plot of land which is around the same size as most practice facilities and could be built right into the Boydston Center and Troutt-Wittmann Center and Arena.

Are you telling us people might be assassinating Kyle Smithpeter's character for no reason?
Long time SIU basketball fan, just getting on here to finally read this. First and only post. Season ticket holder since the early 90's. Here are my thoughts, based on what I know. I am originally from Harrisburg.
Kyle Smithpeters can recruit and he has connections within coaching circles. But that's pretty much where the positives would stop.
Whereas Mullins was as genuine and authentic of a person as you can get, KS is the exact opposite. Very charismatic and personable to everyone he meets in the most insincere way possible. He is a total salesman. It's quasi-Barry Hinson. He lacks integrity and he is not intelligent. His body language when coaching is constantly negative. Always screaming at his players and throwing little tantrums on the sideline when things don't go his way.Basically, if you hated all of the attributes about Bryan Mullins, you will love Kyle Smithpeters as your head coach. If we hire him, here is what will happen. Our results on the floor will largely stay the same. Often competitive, but never great. And in the meantime, we will have traded off all of the other positive things that Bryan brought to the program, for the total opposite. It will be a mistake.SIU basketball is in a sad state of affairs as KS will not change anything within the program in a positive way.I’ve had a few interactions with KS and can say he comes off as extremely arrogant, I have also seen him coach and anybody who has could tell you that he does not hold himself well on the sideline, he looks like a jerk constantly. I want no part of him, the main reason being if he’s hired it wasn’t a search and Bryan’s firing was pointless and an inside hit job by a small amount of powerful people.
Give it up. Mullins is gone. It’s a business. People get fired. He will rebound.
And JFK was assasinated, but it was just politics. Carry on and STFU.Long time SIU basketball fan, just getting on here to finally read this. First and only post. Season ticket holder since the early 90's. Here are my thoughts, based on what I know. I am originally from Harrisburg.

Smithpeters coming in as assistant coach to come back home. He will be “coach in waiting” when the coach hired takes us to the promise land after 5 years and leaves or retires? I kid….kind of.
