Why not just cut to the chase and ask Lane?

Not sure if I'd believe what he had to say at this point anyway.  Oh boy, what a dumpster fire....

😦

I had something typed up with the same phrase….dumpster fire.

What are the odds of hitting the scherzer type hire?

We won’t break the bank, it’s a win the MVC or out in 5 years.

Our rich history in basketball is that….history.  We will be 20 years removed from post season at earliest….get it wrong again….looking at 30?  4 current MVC teams have won the conference tourney since our last.  Drake, Bradley, InSU and UNI.

This could be the right thing to do….but man just feeling defeated.  What percent of confidence do we put with this administration to get it right? Over/under 30%?

Hopefully we get it right or we just need to start being realistic and consider the “great” SIU history….which it is slowly becoming.  We can’t be the school that keeps switching coaches and not get it right…..we can’t miss this one.  Don’t want to be doomsday but that is what it is.

@johnny-utah

don’t forget that the Scherzer success has been dependent on us passing on Robbie Avila.  And in 2002 Weber got a transfer named Roland Roberts.  Weber and Scherzer both hit the lottery as did Indiana State.  Apparently at SIU we are playing the lottery rather than believing hard work will eventually get us where we want to go.  An argument can be made that if Weber doesn’t get Roberts that run doesn’t happen.

Bryan would have never taken a chance on a guy like Rolan Roberts.  He was way too selective and I think it was to his detriment.  Getting high GPA guys and great character players is great but the name of the game in the end is winning.

my biggest Mullins beef outside of the in-game coaching was the lack of Illinois Wolves guys when you have 2 guys on your staff that are Mullins

Yes

I would have hoped that Leanord kept an open mind to see what interest this generated nationally before making a hasty decision. Either way, according to Verbal Commits, there are currently 50 players in the transfer portal. Last year there were around 1700. Let's hope they decide soon before the floodgates open.

This is so true. I don't  think you even need to qualify it with "an argument can be made."

What about Corey Gibson? I think he would be a good recruiter and fit.

I see lots of folks on here like to judge SIU based just on college basketball. Thats fine for us to do on a message board. The people who are in the higher levels of the administration here don’t have that luxury.

I look at the overall health of SIU as a university and we are better off than we have been in a long time. We’re talking 20+ years of administration that wasn’t good and yet now we’re angry at administrators that have much better track records for one decision we may not like.

In emotional situations like this, it’s always a good idea to look at the big picture.

They made this decision to fire the coach…..if the basketball program tanks, I will not be happy….good for the school but this is a basketball forum.

Oh great. At least we can afford him, I guess . . .

My problem with the firing is this: for the money we can pay, who the eff is going to do better?

If you catch lightning in a bottle as Indiana State did, the guy will be gone in a big hurry unless he completely bombs in the MVC or NCAA tournament.

Ill take the problem of having to worry about a coach leaving due to success.

Over the last 1,000 DI hires, what percent came from assistants of programs that were winless in their conference?

0.00-something?
