@grimper57 ohio state fired their coach and depaul hired him. one of his new hired as an asst. coach was an ex fired coach from Miami
I think DePaul would have hired a drunk homeless person off the street :). They've had like 2 winning seasons in the past 23 years.
If it does happen to be Spradlin, he has an interesting buyout clause. Note, this is from his last contract so I imagine the number is at least 260K now.
Kind of wish more schools would do this.
Buyout if Coach Terminates Contract: $160,000; plus coach agrees to schedule a non-conference game with his new school at Morehead State at a mutually agreeable date no later than on season after coach leaves school; If coach or his future employer refuse such an agreement, coach or his future employer will owe Morehead State $100,000
Ben McCollum's Northwest Missouri State lost in the Sweet 16 so he's available
So if he is the man? Will find out soon. Either here or MISSOURI STATE

I think he's going to Missouri State personally but someone here said we interviewed him
It’s sad, but just the fact that SIU, allegedly, even interviewed McCollum and Spradlin makes me think this is probably already a better search than the previous two have been.
Went to the Bears board to see what they were saying. Nothing really noteworthy, although there was a thread where some are expressing concern at McCollum’s ability to play the transfer portal / NIL game that is ever so important at the D1 level.
Getting information like this scares me. Can’t see SIU paying a buyout. Still think Smithpeters is a fall back option but I wouldn’t rule him out just yet.If it does happen to be Spradlin, he has an interesting buyout clause. My friends (who are, or at least think they are, "in the know" much more than I am) are saying it's definitely going to be Spradlin.
So, I've done some reading on his coaching style (of course, the Internet never lies) -- but it sounds like he's a very Mullins-like or Tony Bennett-like coach. Slow tempo. Not sure that's what we need, but of course it's going to depend on how we come out of the portal transfers.

I feel like that could be fixed by hiring a competent assistant staff.
Mullins staff was almost as inexperienced as he was and was headed by his brother.
It was one of his biggest weaknesses, IMO.

Yes, his team style is very similar to Mullins but he's been a hell of a recruiter at Morehead State with limited resources. His teams were always super athletic compared to the rest of the OVC which was a big problem in my opinion with Mullins. Not enough length and athleticism compared to the rest of the MVC. Mullins' teams had to rely more on try-hard to make up for the athleticism difference.

Don’t forget about getting the most out of a shot clock to the point it malfunctions.

Morehead State was actually 7th in the country in longest average possession length (19.8 seconds), SIU was 22nd (19.2 seconds). But I don't think a slow offense is always a bad thing if you can run a good offense and you have the right players to run that offense. We saw it the last 5 years, lot of bad offense and Domask, X, Jones playing hero ball at the end of shot clocks. Clearly what Spradlin is doing at Morehead is working because they've been a pretty impressive program in the OVC.
Interesting enough, Morehead State is 18th in shortest average posssession length on defense (16.6 seconds) but they were a good defensive team (9th in the country in effective field goal % against)
Since Morehead State plays in the OVC, does anybody know what Spradlin's record was against Belmont and Murray before they left?
