Jesus H Christ, i sure hope we haven't fallen that far.Hearing some very surprising rumors from fairly well connected sources. Still have a very hard time believing it, but the name I'm hearing is Kent Williams. Probably not true, but again pretty well sourced!
I would be too, just repeating what I heard. Well placed sources, but certainly could be wrong.Hearing some very surprising rumors from fairly well connected sources. Remember what I said about other options not being as good as Spradlin? I'd be fine with Kent coming on as an assistant though.
Kent Williams does not check the boxes we were given. I would be shocked if he was the hire.
Who is pulling the purse strings. AD , chancellor, boosters. To get THEIR guy in.
Will find out soon!
Wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t get Spradlin. He’s got a good thing going at Morehead. He may think he can win big next season and use that to land a major conference job.
He comes across in his interviews and tweets as being really happy there and in no hurry to leave. One more good season and he'll no doubt attract some interest from some heavy hitters, if he hasn't already. Or be in line for a contract extension that pays him a lot more than he's earning now.
That said, if we can't get him, I'd be happy with a reasonable facsimile of him, or even a very successful Division II coach (there are others out there beyond McCollum). Just hope we can attract someone of that caliber and don't have to settle for one of those "potential backup options."
we are getting ahead of ourselves.
Person say we are not getting spradlin. Then someone posts he has a good get at Morehead. Then someone post that SIU is still a good job. I don’t see people beating down the door. Maybe word is out that gee, last coach has a winning record and won 42 fames in 2 years and gets canned. And he is an alum and in their HOF. You don’t think these coaches cover their bases and invest some time and effort in a future job. Maybe there is something that MAY make this job not so highly desirable.
Even if SIU's job has fallen, there's no way it's fallen far enough where they have to pluck a high school coach alum. There are plenty of people who will take a Missouri Valley job. Just look at Valpo last year.
Spradlin loses 4 of 5 starters. Now would be the time to move on because he is looking at having to hit the portal very hard and successfully for Morehead to be good next year.Wouldn’t surprise me if we didn’t get Spradlin. Shit, Kent Williams might be making more coaching HS ball than he would get here. I'm not sure what the Desmet Coach makes, but im sure its a sizable sum. They've had some big names as head coaches.
edit... i mean as an assistant, im sure we'd pay more as a head coach, but god, i hope he is not our head coach.
He doesn't make anywhere near what the next SIU head coach will make.Shit, Kent Williams might be making more coaching HS ball than he would get here. I'm not sure what the Desmet Coach makes, but im sure its a sizable sum. They've had some big names as head coaches.
is SIU the attractive job it once was. Again as I stated before. Last coach wins 42 games in 2 years and he gets canned. What is a new coach thinking now. Do I want to go there?
Kent Williams is my favorite basketball player to ever play basketball. I will revere him until the day I die.
With that being said, there’s no possible way he’s going to be (or should be) our next coach.
yes but he has to replace an entire roster at SIU, if he comes here

If someone won 42 games in 2 years, I'd say it's a pretty attractive job compared to most. Are you just gonna keep repeating the same thing over and over again?
You are officially the new Dean SIU, only with Mullins instead of Lowery...is SIU the attractive job it once was. Again as I stated before. Last coach wins 42 games in 2 and he gets canned. What is a new coach thinking now. Do I want to go there?
@resaluki-88 Yeah, i edited my post, i mean as an assistant. There is hopefully no way he would be our head coach, so was saying he would make more at Desmet than he would here as an assistant. Pretty sure Desmet pays him very well, probably at least a couple hundred grand. I mean, he was an assistant at some power 5 universities and left that to go to Desmet, so it has to pay well.
But he got can! We all knew why. So I won’t say it. But from an outsider perspective “what does it look like to them”
