Wait a second — this can’t be true. We’ve all been told by resident SIU athletics insider @Saluki4Life that SIU wasn’t in on any good candidates and, in fact, the search isn’t really a search at all because the chancellor already had his guy weeks ago.
If it is KS….I feel at least some of the fan base will get behind him. He is an SIU alum and I don’t think he is the worst choice. Maybe a lateral move that doesn’t make much sense but the choice to fire Mullins has been made. Time to get just a slimmer of this right.
they’re striking out on candidates because of the way Bryan Mullins was handled. They aren’t getting anything right. Now they’re just hoping to fill the position.
You said they predetermined KS from the beginning but are now saying they’re striking out on candidates? You’re all over the place and quite frankly aren’t helping at all running your mouth here and on social media because you’re loyal to Bryan Mullins over SIU. You always have been.
Ok, I think it's time to just ignore this guy. He is way past the "Dean SIU" troll stage. The broken record thing has gotten way out of control. If no one responds to him maybe he will just fade away. I know, wishful thinking...@saluki-4-life didn’t you think Mullins was going to uic and he would make them 100 times better than Siu lol
based on what I’m hearing it doesn’t matter who is at UIC or anywhere else… SIU is going to be in the basement of the valley for a very very long time. We are on second rate candidates who have no track record of winning and even they don’t really want to take our job. This program might be finished, guys.
People on here already had reason to discount everything you say, but if they didn’t already, this post right here should do it. If you hadn’t been on this site for 6 years I’d almost think you’re a fan of another team posting on here to spread disinformation and stir discontent. You need to get a life.
I’m sick of our leadership and you should be too. The fact that all of you aren’t is frankly staggering.
I’m torn between blocking him and waiting to see if he’s proven wrong in all his ridiculous statements. The thing is, even if SIU does make a disappointing hire in the view of most fans, I’m convinced this guy (Saluki4Life) has a personal vendetta against the university and is taking out his frustrations on this board. I wish the mods could do something about it.
Hey how about all of you just stop. You all piling on him is just as annoying as his posting.

I don’t know if potential candidates are bothering to read our board or social media but if they did and they see “Saluki 4 Life” running his mouth about how much SIU sucks, it certainly doesn’t help. But I think that’s what “Saluki 4 Life” wants.
Nothing is ever as bad as it seems or as good as it seems. It is fact that Spradlin was offered and at the last minute turned it down. That in itself defeats the argument that it was always KS. Hard to say what happens next , but this inane drivel serves no useful purpose.

This would be more in line with what Leonard said he wanted. He doesn’t have as close a regional connection or quite as much conference success as Spradlin, but with the right staff, he could be an encouraging hire.

He’s certainly not a wow hire, but I would prefer him to most of the others that I’ve heard mentioned.
The irony here is that he probably wouldn’t have made it to his successful 6th season here b/c his first five were pretty rough.
Calhoun plays the portal game more than Spradlin. 4 of their top 5 players this year were from this previous portal class and only 2 players that got minutes this year actually started at Youngstown.
Calhoun hasn’t hit an NCAA Tournament in 7 years but Youngstown is not a historically good program. Last year was their first NIT hit in history and best KenPom season.

In fairness, though, it’s much tougher to win at Youngstown than at SIU, even given the malaise in Carbondale. YSU has never been a basketball school.
I just did a little reading on Calhoun. I’d be on board with him too.
Hasn’t reached the tournament with Youngstown yet, but has done progressively better since being hired in 2017.
I looked at Youngstown’s records before he was hired. They’ve been a pretty terrible program for a long time. Went 11-21 and 13-21 the two seasons before their longtime head coach Jerry Slocum was finally fired and Calhoun brought on.
This seems like it would be a really solid hire.
He signed a contract extension after last year’s 24-win campaign that brought his salary to 300K/year.
Get this — after last season, he had guided the program to 3-straight winning seasons for the first time since 1982-85.
That shows you where Youngstown had been at in terms of historical success.

With him signing a new extension last year, will we be able to afford to buy him out and give him a raise? People don’t move over 500 miles away for nothing.

Looked it up, his buyout ended Feb 29th this year. He still has a buyout if he goes to a Horizon League member. So he has no buy out to come to SIU.
