I think Calhoun would be a very solid choice.
I am curious on others realistic opinions / options?
Please god do not reply with some "WELL WER GONNA BE WISHIN IT WAS BRYAN NO MATTER WHO IT IS"
Let's move on, and look at who is a good shout in the market
That’s on whoever leaked the story to the media.
True. But I'm guessing that from the Mullins' perspective, how it happened matters a lot less than the fact that it happened.
It took until April to hire Lowery, and mid May to hire Weber and Herrin.
I know it is different times, but patience or maybe desperation worked out pretty well in the past.
Noticed I didn’t give two s h I t s about Barry.
@oberkfell unfortunately completely different era, now. We need to have someone by Friday IMO
Nothing against any of the aforementioned coaches that have been linked to the job after looking at the won and loss records and all the like and especially the ones coming from lower conferences and not counting the D2 coaches they were all given time to build the program and learn to be a head coach and now if you believe all the rumors and bs are we really going to be better off now and the next few years I hope it works out but a lot of work needs to be done behind the scenes to produce the money for NIL and other amenities or it will be difficult whoever the coach is
If they know who did it, they should be fired honestly. For as much as you hear about how they all loved Bryan, someone is the athletics office really f*cked him there. That’s on whoever leaked the story to the media.

Calhoun would be a good hire, hope they get this one done
This would be more in line with what Leonard said he wanted. He doesn’t have as close a regional connection or quite as much conference success as Spradlin, but with the right staff, he could be an encouraging hire.
He’s certainly not a wow hire, but I would prefer him to most of the others that I’ve heard mentioned.
The irony here is that he probably wouldn’t have made it to his successful 6th season here b/c his first five were pretty rough.
In fairness, though, it’s much tougher to win at Youngstown than at SIU, even given the malaise in Carbondale. YSU has never been a basketball school.
I think the Horizon league is much easier to win than the Valley…maybe a bit harder to recruit to, but I think the talent level needed at the Valley to compete year in and year out is much higher.

True, but there wasn’t the portal BS back then either.
certainly true of the OVC as well.
Hearing very good thing about Calhoun!

Calhoun's record may not look too obviously great, but you have to look where he is coaching. Youngstown State is a terrible basketball school. In the 43 years since they moved to DI, they have had a total of 13 winning seasons, and 5 of those are the last five years in a row under Calhoun. So prior to that they had 8 winning seasons in 38 years. I'd say he is doing a hell of a job.
There’s a southern Illinois social media “influencer” (I say that lightly because she’s a wannabe) who is good friends with the Mullins family. She claims his wife found out about his firing via social media. Which makes me assume Mullins went to Lingle, got fired, took a minute to collect his thoughts before going home, but media posted IMMEDIATELY about him being let go. So that’s how his wife found out on socials. Pretty bad look in my opinion. Could’ve given him an hour to tell his family
So I believe the story was leaked after the game and the players found out on the bus. And I believe it wasn’t the university that dropped the ball but someone from Bryan’s camp. I was told possibly Bryan’s agent?
Yep, that’s what I heard as well.
also heard that too! What was the purpose of it? To make SIU administrators look bad?
Youngstown averaged 81.2 points per game (24th in the country) maintaining the 75th best offensive efficiency (Morehead was 80th) with the 87th highest defensive efficiency (Morehead was 65). With all this being close, I would honestly prefer the coach that leans more into the fast paced offense for a change. I’m not optimistic about it but I sure hope Calhoun signs the sheet that was offered.
