Some talk on the YSU message board that Calhoun may also be a candidate for the Duquesne job. Their head coach is apparently retiring soon if not already. Someone mentioned they were paying him close to 1 million, surprisingly.

I do think the longer this goes on the less likely we will get a higher quality coach than Mullins.

A bird in the hand... But that's already a done deal.  I've got a bad feeling that this may turn into a national search for a new AD before we get a coach that makes the cut.

Woah woah woah there... This type of talk will get you berated here!

Pretty sure they’re promoting their associate head coach Dru Jones

I saw that too. Some also mentioned Calhoun possibility being a candidate for the WVU opening that DeVries just took. Perhaps we dodged a bullet with that one.

It seems like Calhoun is primed for a jump up from YSU. If Leonard pulls this off it will be pretty impressive, just based on what I’ve read.

@saluki44

staff members in athletics start at 8. sometimes earlier.  so if there was any hint of a signing it would be out to the appropriate people to have some type of information being prepared.

More often than not these days, word on hires breaks first on social media from one of the national college hoops bigwigs.

I miss the days when local beat writers could sometimes break big stories. Not that SIU has any of those any more … at least who get paid. 😑

The way I see it, we have two groups of posters on here.  The ones who want to see who the next coach might be and the ones who who just want to bitch about Mullins leaving and shit on everything SIU.  I'm not sure what useful purpose that second group serves.

There is a third group. I understand the reason to let Bryan go, and as an alum who loves Saluki basketball I wish the best for the new coach.
But in my experience (and I am old) and having covered a few hirings, you don’t fire a Saluki like Bryan unless you definitely have someone better lined up. Hope those in charge of the search hit the jackpot.

I think it’s gonna end up better can’t get much worse than 5-27 against the top teams in 5 years. I’m hoping that their character lives up to Bryan he’s an awesome dude with a great personality

I know what group you think I am in, but Mullins will ALWAYS be linked to this hire.  They better nail it and from what we see rumored they are striking out and being hung out to dry by candidates they want.  Time will tell, but if you aren't concerned I am not sure you are paying attention.  If you fire Bryan Mullins you better be darn sure you have an upgrade lined up, because we didn't fire Lowery this time... Lowery was a disaster, he HAD to be fired.  Barry, we needed a good hire lined up, and we had it because Barry wasn't a disaster...  This time we may have been caught with our pants down.

I would have been fine with Mullins staying and receiving a short extension, and I'm not sure I'll be especially pleased about the coaching hire when it finally happens, but no way will I root for the new coach or SIU to fail. Anyone who roots for those things should leave SIU behind and move down to where I live in the heart of Florida Gators country, where they'll fit right in. These people have rooted for every football coach to fail since Steve Spurrier left, except for Urban Meyer (although in fairness, Ron Zook and Will Muschamp were duds, and Billy Napier appears to be headed down that road). In any case, it's ugly and miserable, and I won't be part of it with SIU. Did I believe that Hinson and Lowery (and long before that, Van Winkle and Gottfried) reached a certain point where they had to go? Of course. Not once, however, did I root for them to fail.
