Almost always, when people have trouble getting out of their own way in trying to find elusive success in any endeavor, it's due to an inability to stare into the mirror and accept the fact that what they're seeing is the true common denominator of their failure.
The deflection of blame is exactly what I would have expected of Hinson. It is always about him, he craves being the center of attention.

He may be exhibiting the Dunning-Kruger effect.

Donald Trump is more or less the living embodiment of Dunning-Kruger(this isn't a political post, just using it as a real world example, albeit an extreme one).
I wish the article had dug deeper into exactly why things reached the point of no return with Hinson. So many of his issues were self-inflicted. The article didn't get into his nonsensical scheduling, haphazard recruiting and constant drama-queen routine, all of which made it more or less impossible for the program to rise above mediocrity under his watch.
Yea, they mentioned him having 22 wins and not sniffing the NCAA or NIT; clearly they didnt feel the need to explain that it was because the schedule was softer than butter left outside all day in Mississippi in August.

Woogers-as bad as Georgia can be in the summer, Mississippi is still a tick worse.

Illinois can be pretty damn awful too!
I remember camping once at the state fair in Springfield in August in an old canvas tent. Such awful humidity and dead air we wanted to move to Mississippi! LOL
Found this list of states with the worst summers. #1 - Mississippi!
